Rickyrich
This is how my nano tank set up currently looks (it's not really for the eye-candy but more for the fish). 5 gallon saltwater, 8lbs of live sand, 75gph canister filter. I've been adding stability for a week now according to the dosage on the bottle, and some fish flake pieces. How long do you guys think it will take for it to cycle? Link to comment
whatisit
You should add some live or dry rock for a larger surface area for bacteria to grow on, plus added filtration. Usually a month or two before it will be cycled. Link to comment
yomon347
Add around 5 lbs of live rock. Ditch the canister and grab a small powerhead. Let it cycle for 6 weeks while you research everything. Link to comment

It is impossible to say how long it'd take. You juat need to test your tank and see for yourself where in the cycle you are at. Link to comment
cju84
Are you looking for other suggestions or are you happy with your setup? If you're willing to change, like a few others have said, get 5lbs of live rock in there, get rid of the canister filter and add a power head (hydor koralia 240 is what I use). The live rock will act as your filter and promote good bacteria growth. Your cycle will generally take a month to complete, assuming you add the live rock (it should be very cheap from your LFS).
