I'm about ready to swap over to my new tank and still don't know what light to buy for it. I'm wanting led I just don't know which way to go I'm most likely going to buy used so I can get a better fixture. I don't really plan on a lot if sps but do plan on a clam.

I have a couple non led fixtures right now that I have accumulated just don't know if I want to use a 250w halide because of heat, or a 4x24t5 either.

any price constraints or other requirements? As a relatively newbie reefer, I just upgraded the PCs in my biocube to a Current USA Marine Orbit.

Reasons i got it: Cost ($120), Very low profile, comes with its own slick controller system, lot of cool effects

Cons: Not a very powerful light.

Now... depending on what you want to keep and where you want to put it in the tank, should allow you to do a lot of things (Zoa, softs, some LPS). My thought is to possibly add a 2nd fixture in the future if i want to get into SPS. Also... a marine orbit pro is supposedly in the works but no idea when/if that will come out.

I actually have one of them on my 20h I'm upgrading from and don't really like it. I'm thinking about ai sol, kessil 350/360, radion xr15, 120w razor, nanobox duo, trying to stay under 400 so looking for used stuff. Would really like an ai prime and upgrade to 2 later down the road.

Would the Kessil 160 cover 24"?

Nope. A 360 would be stretched to cover a 24x24 footprint.

DIY or a pair of reefbreeders value fixtures would be your friend at a lower price point.

I like the reef breeders but want something programmable really thinking about getting a prime and upgrading to 2 down the road. Really like the price point and the look of the prime just not sure about coverage.

Two of them will likely still be a bit weak, but if you're not an SPS guy, you'd be OK with two of them. Two of them are roughly as strong as a single reefbreeders value fixtures.

  • 2 weeks later...

Been reading up on the photon 16 and 24, just can't find good coverage information to decide between the two and wish it had wifi capabilities.

the kessil A160 would be cutting it close... but it depends how you scape it. a beauty of a light though ill tell you that much. if you could get the a360, it would be worth.

Edit: just saw you ordered lights. seen a lot of these variants in person. fairly good lights imo.

Just don't know if I have nano box money :/

You do.

You just need to save. And not buy other stuff you also want.

Ordered the photon 24 we will see how it works

Gets good reviews.
