alanwest09872
I want to find some really strange looking fish for my reef tank. they need to be coral and invert safe. Everything that I have seen that has interested me isnt invert safe. Toadfish and frogfish I think thats what there called. Also a guy with a horn on his head. I really am looking for a wow factor in a fish but cant find anything that suits my needs. Does anyone know of anything off the top of there heads that they can recommend Edit: Tank is 56 gallon with 20 gallon sump. 30l 18w 24d Link to comment

specore
pipefish? That's a commitment though Link to comment
gena
Banggai cardinalfish are strange looking, also pajama cardinals. They are more common but have unique looks in my opinion. Plus they are reef safe. Link to comment
The Aquarist
Stippled Clingfish are really unique, they look like plecos. They do tend to hide, but they get real friendly with you overtime. They are invert safe, but I wouldn't trust them with small shrimps like sexy shrimp. Link to comment
ajmckay
Sort of a tough request... Think about what a "Reef" is. In general it's a place where life congregates. Most of the fish there have some sort of mechanism to help avoid predation. Usually it's a form of camoflauge so they tend to blend in rather than stand out... It's the predatory fish that are more unique as specimens. Also shrimp are a food source for a LOT of fish - especially the smaller shrimp. IMO if you're looking for the "what the hell is that" response, I would look to possibly a fairy or flasher wrasse, they have some pretty cool coloring and they're pretty reef safe except for small shrimp. Another possibility is a spotted or saddle puffer fish. Some people have good luck with those not messing with the inverts too badly but I wouldn't be surprised if they ate a shrimp at some time. Another obvious an completely reef safe option is a designer clownfish... Get a pair of platinum or snowflake clownfish and people will be all like "WTF Nemo?!?!" Filefish Algae blenny Blue Spot Jawfish are pretty cool - interesting behavior (or other jawfish) dwarf lionfish like a fumanchu or fuzzy Why not exclude the shrimp from your tank and then you'll be set for some of these... alanwest09872
I have to go back and look since my last post but I wanna toss out the one I found http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+24+65&pcatid=65 copy and paste the last line: This fish has the peculiar habit of coming to the surface and spitting when it is hungry. Pipefish might be a winner also hes kinda cool Banggai cardinalfish, pajama cardinals there cool but dont tickle my fancy. Stippled Clingfish hes different and kind cool. Mimic Saddle Puffer is cool to I have to do a bit more reading thou Blue Spot Jawfish Nice coloring on this guy the lionfish is cool I would love to get one but they may eat my 2 clowns that I inherited. I want a manarin goby but my tank isnt ready for it. I know you need a very well established tank to keep them alive. Link to comment
MikeTR
You'd have to do a minimalist scape approach or rely heavily on the mag rocks attached to the back glass. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+46+2224&pcatid=2224 Link to comment
alanwest09872
You'd have to do a minimalist scape approach or rely heavily on the mag rocks attached to the back glass. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+46+2224&pcatid=2224 I have been looking at him and really thinking about it. my tank is 18 wide. So if I stacked my live rock against the backwall so it only took up 6 inches it would give him 12 inches by 30. do you think that would be enough? Link to comment
MikeTR
seems the move slow and methodical, almost walking across the sandbed so I think you'd be fine. looks like you'll have to take some extra time feeding, turning pumps off and thawing mysis to allow him to eat. Seems like you can get a dragonet with him also. Link to comment
DocReef
White spotted pygmy filefish Link to comment
jestep
Dwarf golden moray. Going to be fish and invert safe as long as you aren't trying to keep sexy shrimp or something the same size. Need very secure tank though. They can fit through very small spaces (1/8 - 1/4") and can climb about 80% of their body length. Link to comment
Han Solo
I second the Fu Manchu dwarf lionfish! Mr. Whiskers is pretty awesome and would probably feed out of my hand if it weren't for super painfull worst-than-wasps stings! (crossing my fingers!) ALSO, what about seahorses?? Never seen a cooler creature... Link to comment
