Berlibee
Hello, found under one of the new corals a small Asterina Starfish and a Brittle star. I don't know what to do with them now, could you please tell me what is the best thing to do now, keep them or I don't need them in my tank? Thank you! Link to comment

Partially Submerged
Keep them both. Asterinas are nice and won't hurt your tank. Link to comment
Admonition
Keep them both. Asterinas are nice and won't hurt your tank. Unless you find him munching on your corals, which I did yesterday. I posted pictures lol Link to comment
cindyp
i've a few asterina stars in my tank. they have never been near my corals and are a nice addition. i always see them on the glass or at the back. i think i have a total of 2 1/4. there was one that only had three legs, i think he might be down to one now. he is just a dot or large booger. ha! Maniu
2 types of asterina. One is "good" & other is "evil". Dark ones should be removed. Light in color, still need to be watched. I have few here and there but not in display tank. Link to comment
Benny314
Got bloody hundreds of the things. Never done my tank any harm. All shapes and sizes too. Very few are perfect stars. Link to comment

Benny314
Started with them in my Fluval Edge 46 and they have made the move over into my new 330l system. Some times they annoy the odd zoa by climbing over it, but so do my hermits and cleaner shrimp. I didn't know they were algae eaters. That's great if they are. Link to comment

I have few here and there but not in display tank. There are tons of different species, and a very small percentage of them seem to harm corals. Unless one actually *sees* the damage (sitting on a coral doesn't count), there is no need to worry about them. They are cool. Hey, it's little starfish! Link to comment
Berlibee
Ok, thank you guys. I'm gonna keep them both. Link to comment

And because of my luck mine was one of those -.- You can see a pic of the coral damage at the bottom of page one. http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/355389-hitch-hiker-starfish-kill-it-with-fire-or-reef-safe/ Just keep an eye out for any coral damage Link to comment
wildbill79
You can keep both. I have a lot of both in my tank and haven't had an issue. All of my asterinas are light colored. I have both large and small. The large just split to create more small ones. Link to comment

Partially Submerged
It's true. I really like them. What's so strange about them is that they are always suddenly there. I never see them move, and yet when the lights go out, a few minutes later they are all over the place, eating the film from the glass. Maybe they are really, really fast. Link to comment
amphipod
maybe also they teleport and we dont see it because they can detect when people are watching lol Link to comment
