chonathin
Chon's 5 gallon Spec of Reef So here I go again... This is my very small return to the nano reef community. I've been out of the hobby for a few years due to time constraints and my obsession with firearms (another expensive interest of mine). I've always admired the pico sized reefs on this site. Figured I might as well try one out and see what I could accomplish. The goal is to stock only well thought out corals and keep a handle on impulse buys. That in mind, this tank will mostly house rics, zoas, and a few LPS. I went looking for tanks and found the Fluval Spec V. Thought it was a cool little tank and the girlfriend agreed so it came home with me, along with the usual live rock and sand. I've already modded the overflow, built a media rack so the heater could fit, and replaced the stock pump. The Nano Box Tide has been ordered for lighting as well. Needless to say, I'm very excited to get my hands on it! I'm happy to be getting back into the reef life, its been too long! Equipment: Fluval Spec V Marineland 606 pump Aqueon 50 watt heater Media Rack K2 Viper 150 watt-----> Waiting on Nano Box Tide to arrive 01/12/2015 Link to comment
chonathin
So I found my old float switch after digging through the Big-Box-O-Stuff. Made a quick hanger for it out of a CD case. I think its going to turn out quite well. The switch only allows for a minimal amount of evap in such a small filter area. I'm thinking it should keep the salinity very stable. http://s26.photobucket.com/user/chonathin/media/005_zps27ca1f39.jpg.html'> Link to comment
chonathin
Figured I'd throw the K2 150 watt over the tank till the NanoBox Tide gets here. Also added some livestock over the weekend. Link to comment

Reefkid88
I love those lights I have a brand new one still in the box waiting on a project. the 70w or the 150w ? They were such good lights. I loved my 70w,I wish FNI still had theirs in stock but it seems like they are going to be done making lights once their current stock is depleted. I was actually thinking about wanting to set up one of these not that long ago, they are such cool little tanks. I think this thing needs a rw-4 or a mp10 mmmmmm, chalicessssss !!!! Looks great! Following along. I (buddythelion) just started my own pico. You shouldn't even be able to start a tank hahahha. Link to comment

chonathin
So after much deliberation, I ordered a new Fusion 10 gallon to replace the spec v. While I love the look of the spec, there are some things I don't much care for. I'm looking forward to a bit more water volume and more space for equipment. I'm sure Darth Maul (clown fish) would agree! So new tank thread as soon as I start the cycle. Link to comment

I already got the tank last night and I must say, I'm very surprised with the build quality vs price. Very nice glass and the seals are well done. We'll see if anything needs to be done to the overflow for a higher water level in the DT area. I think you'd very much like the tank. very sleek with the top off Link to comment

Tanks look so nice with that light, including yours! So after much deliberation, I ordered a new Fusion 10 gallon to replace the spec v.
