Alk question

Is it typical to dose 25 ml of alkalinity every day or 2 in a 75 mixed reef tank? My friend said it seems like a lot. I dose then test my water a hour or two later and its back at normal levels at 9, my cal seems to not move to much as well as my mag. I am starting a 2 part dosing system today with the bulk reef supply doses I just don't want to mess anything up. I am testing too early? My friend said I have to wait a week to test which dose not seem right. I have a lot of corals but there not huge colonies.

You should dose based on whatever is being used by your reef. If your reef requires 25mL per day then so be it. You should test alk once every 24 hours at the same time of day for a week to determine the average daily use. My alk can drop up to as much as 1 point per day and I have no large colonies either.

hmm ok dose all drop at night when lights are off by any chance

If your corals are continuing to absorb it from the water then yes.

Alk should be tested around the same time of day. not morning/night.

Dosing is better at night because PH drops at night and alk increases ph

IME manual dosing of ALK is best done in the AM

I thought dosing Cal during the day, and ALK at night(lights off) was more suitable???? unless you mean early AM with lights off.

Probably could have been more clear, I meant early AM

but if I dosed alk at night and it is already increased wouldn't that cause even more of a increase?

What test kit are you using because you could of got a false reading?

Early AM like mentioned is perfect!
