Reef energy A+B: problems

So reef energy says it will not alter nitrates or phosphates when dosing. Has anyone experienced otherwise? I dosed the recommended amount daily and when i took a nitrate reading 2 weeks later nitrates were around 40ppm with red cyano outbreaks. However in my 10gallon system this could have been caused by a dead snail or similar.

-have you had any algae problems due to reef energy?
-how long do you wait to do water changes after dosing reef energy?

other than that, corals respond REALLY well to this product :)

Even though you are using the recommended dosage, changes to nutrient levels might be a sign of over dosing. According to the BRS website, "fluctuations in nitrate and phosphate levels as wells as the development of bio-film on rocks or an algae breakout are signs that dosing changes may be necessary." I would monitor phosphate (with a good low range kit) as well. I would probably do water changes prior to dosing.
