lk250f
Hello all, I noticed on the plastic back of my biocube and on the silicone that connects the plastic to the glass that there was a strange white film on it. It was an off white color, with some small darker specks on it. It was soft and was easily rubbed off with my finger. I did not notice a strange smell or anything. It felt slick and was a thin film. It was in two spots, the silicone location of it was smaller than a dime and the spot on the plastic was even smaller. My nitrates are zero, pH usually is in the 8.0-8.2 range, dKH 10, SG is 1.025. Have not run ammonia and nitrite in a bit since those have been always at zero after my cycle (or lack of since the established rock did not really encourage a cycle). The tank has been running a little over two months. I run chaeto in the back chamber with only filter pads above it and do 20% water changes weekly. I have a YWG and reef chromis, cleaner shrimp and snails and dwarf blue hermits with some zoas, softies and couple LPS. everything looks great. Just a weird film like I mentioned, I cleaned it off but was not sure if this was something that has been seen before. Thank you for the help. Link to comment
Pinner Reef
Probably a bacteria bloom. I have seen this in several new tanks. It'll usually will go away on it's own after a few weeks. Link to comment
lk250f
I was reading about that as a possibility and could definitely be that. Another friend said it may be a sponge of some sort. I will keep and eye out and see what it is. Tested ammonia and nitrite just to be sure I wasn't having an issue and they are also zero along with nitrate. I also noticed the tank smells different. Like when driving to the beach. Like driving past the bay. I noticed this after I scraped a ton of algae I let build up on the glass. Did a water change right after but still noticed the different smell. Link to comment
