BulkRate
Hobby Lobby. Cheapest way to get a nice variety of new hermit crab duds... just avoid the shell art packs that contain painted shells. give 'em a good boil in rodi and a day or two soak in used tank water before adding them to your tank. cmb2104
thanks guys! ill check the hobby lobby tomorrow.... reef cleaners looks promising too! live aquaria has some nice ones... expensive tho... anyone ever pick some up at the beach? Link to comment
ndrobey
Yeah, I've gotten them off the beach, BUT they usually stink from decay of their previous owners. Definitely need to boil them in RODI water a couple of times and then soak them in tank water for a few days before putting them in the tank. Link to comment
BulkRate
I have a few wild shells in my tank... hermits'll move them around a lot, but not wear them for very long... it's hit or miss. As long as you boil them first (and make sure they're unoccupied) it should be fine. I'd treat them ones found on the beach to maybe a couple of weeks of quarantine (in practical terms let 'me sit in a Dixie cup of new salt water, mix not ocean) just to avoid anything unintentional coming in on them.
