Brayreef
What species of mantis shrimp could I put in a 3 gallon bare bottom tank? Not sure if any species would be compatible in such a small tank. I would preferably like something with more color. I wanted to construct a pvc tunnel network similar to what you would see for hamster cages lol. Any suggestions? Link to comment
ajmckay
Actually there are plenty of species that would do well in a tank that size... There are a lot of mantis shrimp that are pretty small, like less than 2"... Many of them aren't usually available, but if you're hot to get one and not too picky you could put it out there because sometimes they come in as hitchhikers that otherwise people just throw away. http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/arthropoda/crustacea/malacostraca/eumalacostraca/royslist/ Check it! dbk07
Does anyone know what online retailers usually stock them? Can't seem to find any as hitch hikers at the LFS. Link to comment
jamescstein
Right now I've got a gulf species of one that is living in a 1.5 gallon plastic container floating in a tank that I have cycling. She's been there for a month now. Even had a clutch of eggs (infertile). You might try Tampa Bay Saltwater. He's a gulf/Caribbean live rock farmer and the one I have came as a hitchhiker on his rock. I don't think he keeps stock of anything but he might be able to get you one that falls off a rock he's prepping for someone else. Link to comment
