Today.....

I cycled pretty quickly ~ 2 weeks, with the help of some Dr. Tim's to help seed my dry rock. Once that got going by dosing Ammonia, I added 3 lbs of 10yr old established, totally coralline encrusted LR. This has resulted in 0 ppm Nitrates for the last 2 months. At the 3 week mark, I added a CUC, then a clown @ 1 month. It's been a little over 2 months and I have a decent biolad in the tank with still no noticeable nitrates. Phosphates show zero on my crappy API test kit, but the Hanna Phosphorus checker should b here today or tomorrow. Running Purigen as well, but have Chemipure Blue on the way to replace it. Everything is looking good. Had a very small Diatom outbreak on the sandbed around week 2-3, but nothing the CUC didn't handle every night (3 snals, 2 hermits).

A couple pics including recent FTS..

Updated FTS

I purchased an Apex to replace my old Aqua controller Jr., got a good deal with a whole bunch of extras that I don't need! Lol. Probably have a listing in the sales section for the extra stuff soon. Still need to set it up when my wireless adapter comes in.

I added a diffuser to my LED's as well. It's the self stick 'sand' style. My DIY array is pretty tight, but I was still getting a little disco from the OCW in the middle of the tank/rock work. This took care of that issue very well.

Unique looking tank. I like it. Where do you get your corals and such from? Local or online? I'm not too far from you (Port Huron) and seem to have troubles finding much locally.

Some online. A lot local. Cherry Corals is great! as is Tropicorium.

Are you on MI Reefers? Have gotten good stuff cheap from fellow reefers.

I'm pretty hit or miss w/ MI Reefers. I unfortunately picked up a bunch of bad hitchikers from someone that was selling frags there. Kind of left a bad taste.

I've been wanting to get down to Cherry Corals, but with little kids at home and a wife who doesn't appreciate the corals as much as me, it's hard to find the time to make the 3-4 hour round trip.

Supposed to be a swap in Flint either this month or next month, can't remember. Should b pretty decent.

There's a couple people on Reefers that have good stuff that I deal with, one in St Clair Shores, & another more up your way closer to Pontiac. If your interested I can give you their Reefer handles. Never had a problem.

That'd be cool. I'm in St Clair Shores every couple of months. I saw something about a frag swap in August in Flint. I will definitely try to get up there for that.

Guzzler1786 is in St Clair Shores, nice guy, very reasonable prices, pest free. PM him & see what he has available when you're gonna b down that way, he usually always has some stuff for sale.

Chicobear is in Sterling Heights. This guy is like a LFS, a ton of stuff & good prices as well. Always has stuff available.

If you get down around St Clair Shores, I heard that Stingray Bay was a very nice LFS for coral & such, but haven't been there myself.

Thanks a lot, appreciate it. Too bad I have to take it down soon. Working on a new build. I've had this tank for 10years & set it up twice, I love it.

I was in Stingray Bay last week. Coral was blah, but lots of nice fish. Not bad prices on the fish either. Thanks for the info on the "local" sellers

Oh, Ok. Never been there, won't break my neck to go then. What about that place in Pontiac, ever been there? Can't think of the name. If you have how is it? Wouldn't be too far from me.

There's also a pretty decent LFS in Livonia that I go to, nice stuff & fish & decent prices. Pretty far for you, but if you make the trip to Cherry Corals, it's nearby. I forget the name, but can look it up if your interested.

You are probably thinking of Fantastic Fins in Livonia.? Heard good things, but never been. I have not been to the store in Pontiac either. There is a new place that recently opened in Richmond that is supposed to have some nice stuff. I'll be checking that out when I get back from my vacation

Nope never been to Fantastic Fins, have to check it out. I was talking about Pet Connection on 5 Mile Rd in Livonia, they have pretty nice frags of SPS, LPS, etc. Pretty nice setup, stuff looks good, nice PE. Fair prices

So, haven't updated this thread in a while, been busy planning & working on my upgrade. Tank has been going decent, a few little setbacks, lost a few zoas I think to low nutrients. Trates & Phates were both zero for a while & I don't think they liked that, lost about half my Rasta's & Lakers. Started feeding more & it looks like the recession has stopped & started to turn around. Most everything else is growing, although I did bleach my Forest Fire monti & Red cap from having them too high, both are removed now and lowered until the upgrade. Torch doubled in size & birds of paradise is growing good under the higher light. Crappy pic once again from my iPhone, but I'm no photographer.

And here is my future reefer & reason for the tank upgrade, this was a couple months ago & we've had to move the recliner in front of the tank, clothes basket not doing it anymore. Ten months & toddling all over the house! Scared he'd be able to pull the current tank down with the crappy particle board stand, not very stable.

Thanks Rachel, been up for over a year now. I've had this tank for around 10 years, but it's gotta come down for my upgrade. 1 yr old is too strong & scared he'll be able to compromise the crappy biocube stand. New tank will be more stable & designed with him in mind so he can walk right up to it without harming anything. I'll keep this tank tho, as i really like it & it's dead silent with the internal standpipe.

Can't wait to see how your new one turns out!!! This one is beautiful and I'm glad you're keeping this tank.
