sponge filter in a pod tank

I'm planning on setting up a 5 gallon to start a pod colony. Is it possible to use a sponge filter for water movement. The only other thing that will be in there is live rocks and maybe chaeto. The only reason I want to use sponge filter is because I already have it and don't want to spend more money if I have something that works

Absolutely, using a sponge filter is a great idea for a pod tank. It will also aerate the water so it doesn't go anoxic when your cultures start to take off.
