IM nuvo fusion 10 help

So I'm ordering this tank but I need some help. I'm new to this hobby and I've read multiple threads on builds.

So now to my questions.

Is the IM led lights that can come with the tank good enough for a reef?

Also what should I get parts wise that make sense and will make my life easier.

Thanks.

"a reef" is a broad term. It should be good enough for softies (zoa's/shrooms) and some LPS. I don't think it's strong enough for SPS.

The single biggest upgrade you can make is an ATO. I have the Smart ATO and it works well. The InTank media basket is a huge improvement over the default.

I just ordered a Kessil 160 for a light. It looks to fit our needs well.

Well this is what I was thinking.

Nuvo fusion 10 w/ the skyye lighting (ai nano or nano box mini tide hopefully soon)

Jebao rw-4

Intank media basket

Smart ATO

Anything else that would be crucial like a controller?

A vigilant reef keeper is far more crucial on a tank than a controller. Although, a controller would be nice, I think you're going to be finding yourself running out of room in the rear chamber of that tank! I would stick with what you have listed and go from there IMHO...

Apparently they have begun shipping 18w lights with these instead of 8w lights, might be worth checking to see which one you are getting. The 18w might be strong enough for some decent growth as long as you understand you wont be keeping SPS under them. ;) The 18w has sharp edges and the 8w has rounded edges on the fixture if you need a quick way to tell the difference when you take a look at the tank. They generally go for $129 separately or only $100 if you buy them with the tank at the same time.

That RW-4 will be too much. I had an RW8 in my Fusion 20 and it was gigantic and I couldn't put it on the lowest setting without blowing my sand around.

What is a good power head for this bad boy, small foot print and decent flow?

Depends on how much you want to spend on it. MP10 is the best, you just run it low power. WP10 is more affordable and works fine too.

ive got a buddy with a rw4 in a basic 10g and it seems to do just fine. just like the huge gap in power between the wp-10 and wp-25. the rw-4 and rw-8 are very similar in that way.

Yeah on a basic 10g it would be fine. IM Fusions are 12" long, while a typical 10g is usually 20-24" long depending on style. That double length gives it time to dissipate and not dig holes etc.

The heck with a controller.

Here is what I recommend:

Get the best light you can afford, maybe even save until you can afford the light and then get the tank/etc - otherwise you spend MORE money in the long run when it wasn't necessary (your cycle requires no light and in fact slows down with a light). Also get an ATO. I have the JBJ ATO with a tom's aqualifter and it works fantastic in the tank. You need a good heater, a cobalt neo-therm 50W is top notch. Remove the nozzle from the return line to open up flow, and maybe invest in a new pump (I have the stock but am upgrading to a better one at some point). If you have a better pump, you won't need the RW-4 or anything else in the display.

A new media basket would be useful, and inTank makes the best ones out there. I used some aquarium magnets from K J magnets and a piece of egg crate to make a filter floss shelf and it works great for me, so a media basket isn't NECESSARY.

Mj900 good enough?

Others have reported good success with MJ900.

Tibbsy's advice is solid gold. I've got an MP-10 and a controller on mine, but I would only add them after doing everything else he listed first :)

We should post all this on the IM10 Fusion Club thread :)

That or the 1200. The rio+ 1000 or higher actually seem to be good, too. And for their price may be great options. I've been looking at them myself. I asked for an eheim for Christmas.

i had a rio+600 for about 2 hours in mine, way too much for my tank

then again with my setup im going with a weaker return pump and relying on my power head to shake things up

The rio+600 was too much on its own or with another power head? The gph for the rio+600 is 200 gph. I would think that with the 90 degree elbow and the return nozzle or spin stream, it would drop to 150-175 gph? I may need to rethink my pump choice - or just dial it down lol

just the rio600 by itself, no powerhead. i honestly switched back to the stock pump at full blast and its been enough to keep me happy
