VW_TDI_02
That's what it looks like to me. Couldn't tell you what kind but it does look like coral. Link to comment
Mariaface
Yehp. It's shrunk into its skeleton, what with being out of water, but it's definitely alive and definitely coral. Go put that sucker in water, give it a few days. 8D Link to comment
alanwest09872
I have been cycling the live rock in a bucket. been changing the water ever 3-4 days. Had ammonia spike and thats gone I still have a bit higher Nitrites its been cycling for 4 weeks now. would it kill my biocube if i put it in there right now. its about a 6lb piece of live rock Link to comment

If it's survived the ammonia spike and four weeks in a bucket, it'll be fine. I'd make sure to baste all the rocks and make sure detritus is getting dislodged (and keep something like Prime on hand for binding up free ammonia), but it looks like you've gotten over the major hump of the cycle. :] Once your nitrites are gone, you should be good! Keep good flow going in the bucket, and a heater of course (I'm sure you already know this). I'm not sure if you've got any light on it at all, but that would help. It could also spike algae growth all over your rocks. Fair warning. If your BioCube is empty, it wouldn't hurt to put the rocks in. And if it's already settled, and the new rocks are no longer producing more ammonia than they can handle, adding the rock with the coral on it shouldn't really be an issue. You'd need to watch out for nitrites, yes, but the rest of what's in the BioCube could easily handle that. Link to comment

alanwest09872
ya with an api kit. Nitrates are at about 10 now (did water change 2 days ago) I should mention ammonia and Nitrite are 0 The biocube has 0 Ammonia and Nitire The bucket with curing live rock has 0 ammonia and some Nitrites Link to comment
Arkayology
It looks like an encrusting porites. Link to comment

Unless that's the only rock, in which case you may want to wait for nitrites to come down to zero as well. :] And since you've got nitrates, I should mention that presence of high phosphates and lots of light is going to mean algae if your filtration isn't up for the job, so make sure that's settled well! It's good that you've got it, although it's a bit expensive in the long run (still worth it for small tanks, though). Try buying carbon and GFO/phosguard in bulk and using media bags? Since I didn't feel like hooking up a reactor and am not a fan of lots of rinsing and hassle, I went with Matrix Carbon and Phosguard for my tank. Ah, and be careful with bio balls. It's great that you're keeping them from getting detritus build-up. You'll want to get some filter floss for the tank, so that water has to pass through it before it gets to the rest of the filtration. It'll keep out larger particles, and you can throw out old filter floss and replace it every few days. Link to comment
alanwest09872
Yes its chemi-Pure Elite. The women hand like 8 cans of the stuff. I plan on changing the middle chamber to a refugium in about 10 days. top will be chemi pure 2nd will be Chaeto and third will be filter floss. I wasnt ready for corals at all. I was planning on getting some in about 3 -6 months from now thou lol. Guess I have to move up my time frame a bit. Link to comment

I'm not sure what the order looks like in the BioCube, but you do want the filter floss to be the first thing the water passes through when it gets past the overflow and moves into the filtration chambers. You also want it to be easily removable. :] Link to comment

moores38
Yes, as colors fade that means the micro organisms inside are dying off, they are the source of the color. Link to comment

Just keep the water quality good and keep them face-up so they take in the aquarium lights. Once a week, where you see coral but not skeleton, drop something like baby brine shrimp or teeny mysis shrimp (or really, even fish food pellets less than 1mm) onto them with the water circulation cut off. Wait maybe ten minutes, then turn the pumps/filtration back on. Link to comment
