Wretched's JBJ 45RL

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I have another thread up for my build log of my nano 10 gallon fusion so I figured i'd post a build log on my JBJ 45RL. It seems there's not that many logs, reviews, etc for a JBJ 45RL so i'll add to the very short list!

The tank has been up for about 8 months but all of the coral came from my previous tanks that have been fragged numerous times. I'm a huge lover of lps as you can tell. The tank has had its ups-and-downs, but more importantly... mostly ups. I had switched over to LED(maxspect razor 420r) a while back and ran them for 4 months. I acclimated, and reached my max percentage I wanted and still wasn't impressed. I always go back to T5. I've given LED so many shots on all of my tanks, I have a collection of high end fixtures(will probably sell soon). Any-who here you go!

Filtration: Filter Floss + Chemi Pure Elite Blue

Skimmer: Tunze 9002 w/ InTank Upgraded Cup. Cadlights PLS 50 Elite

Lighting: Ebay 6x24w T5HO fixture w/ ATI bulbs---- 2x AI Prime LED--- ATI Sunpower 6x24 Maxspect Razor 120w Hybrid with 2x Blue + ATI Bulbs

Bulbs: Blue+,Blue+,Purple+,Blue+,AquaBlue, Coral +, Blue+

Salt: Red Sea Coral Pro

Dosing: B-Ionic 2-part daily, 15mL of each. Up to 35ML of each/day

Feeding: Feed daily with New Life SPECTRUM pellets(I also feed this to my LPS).

-Mix: Freeze Dried phytoplankton, Coral Frenzy, and Oyster feast 2x weekly.

Water Changes: 10 Gallons 2x per month.

If you have any questions, or something I missed let me know! I'll help as much as possible!

Here's probably my most favorite shot of all time that I have ever took. If you were an MP10 in my tank, this would be your view daily. =)

I just noticed you also had a razor and wasn't impressed. I tried one for bit also and went back to t5

Yea, I ran them a good 4-5 months. I really wanted to like them. But, I felt in the end that I wasted 5 months of time. The growth really slowed down, colors were "ok." I melted all my xenia at the top of the display, which I didn't like because I love Xenia and keep it under control. The options to control sunrise/sunset was awesome, but in the end T5 outshines LED by a long shot still, IMO.

Not to mention, I lost a birdnest that was the size of a volleyball because of the way it grew angled on my rock w/ the T5 I had before I made the switch to the maxspect. The light is just so directional rather than the blanket of light from T5. The birdnest I have now is a frag I saved from the volleyball that died. It's growing fast again :)

Still am dying for more information!

I usually follow up with people's questions/comments. While adding a sump would be a sweet idea, but not so much for the 45-RL in my opinion. Maybe you can remove the false wall and do it from there, but at that point i'd just buy a different tank and drill it. The AIO compartments are pretty spacious, I'll add some updated information and photos for you per request :)

Update: The tank went through a move to a different home and it wasn't very successful, but the tank has rebounded over the last couple of months and doing excellent. You'll notice my green monti collapsed, and same with the birdnest.

Filtration: Filter Floss + Chemi Pure Elite --> Chemi Pure Blue (Don't notice a difference, but works great)

Skimmer: Tunze 9002 w/ InTank Upgraded Cup. (couldnt get solid skim) --> Cadlights PLS-50. I LOVE THIS SKIMMER. Great skim, and consistent.

Lighting: Ebay 6x24w T5HO fixture w/ ATI bulbs --> (TWO) AI Prime units

Bulbs: Blue+,Blue+,Purple+,Blue+,AquaBlue,Blue+

Salt: Red Sea Coral Pro

Dosing: B-Ionic 2-part daily, 15mL of each. --> By demand of my lps heavy tank it's up to 20ML per day

Dosing Pump: Jebao

Feeding: Feed daily with New Life SPECTRUM pellets(I also feed this to my LPS). Tang eats Nori and Ocean Nutrition Formula Two Flakes. I also mix 4 drops of Selcon daily.

-Mix: Freeze Dried phytoplankton, Coral Frenzy, and Oyster feast 2x weekly.

Water Changes: Weekly 5 gallons, 10 gallons at the end of the month.

Rescued this fella from Petco a couple months back. He was strictly grey/white and now he's coloring up beautifully.

My clowns love their "Anemone" aka torch coral.

Here's the Cadlights PLS 50 Elite skimmer in action, I run it pretty wet as my tank is stocked heavily... this is about 36 hours of skim. Much much MUCHH better than the tunze 9002 in my experience.

Wow impressive tank man! So much color and those corals are massive!

Nice tank and equipment! Looking good!

Thanks folks, all started from 1-2 heads or 1-2" frags! They've been with me a long time =)

Beautiful!

So I have the tank ready for water, and ditched the sump for a SRO HOB skimmer.

Any advice? Did you replace the stock pumps? I have a MP10w and a MP40w QD- what do you think?

Where is your ATO? In cabinet? I love your tank <3

Thank you, I'd recommend the cadlights pls-50 elite if you were interested in keeping a clean setup. Working great for me. I did not replace the stock pumps, they push a lot of water... Depending on what you're keeping as livestock, the mp10 should handle moderate lps, if you plan to go sps dominant you will need another. In fact, I dumped my mp10 for the Jebao RW-4 because it moves more water... That being said, I don't have the quiet driver... so you may be good! I don't use high flow though, low-moderate. My mp10 serves as the flow behind the rocks... sadly. My ATO is under the cabinet and using the nano osmolator, working strong and has a good head of 4ft.

I now have a MP40w QD, Tunze Osmulator, and the tank has coral!

I am torn on the skimmer though- help! Cad Lights PLS-50 is $135, but they just came out with a HOB thats $194 and rated MUCH higher. I don't know if I need the over-skimming though!

Let me tell you, I LOVE my cadlights 50-elite. It works excellent for me. Yes it's very finnicky as you have probably read... but once you find that sweet spot, it produces! I don't like the look of any HOB, especially in an AIO tank... Your tank is looking great, hope you find a skimmer to your liking :)

That leather is wonderful.

Great tank, both before and after the move. Keep us updated! :)

Thank you, currently in the mix of doing a led/t5 hyrbid with Dave @ Nanobox. We'll see what I do :)

Okay, PLS-50 it is! :)

Hoping to also fit on a IM media reactor, so that's probably the best choice. It goes on one of the interior compartments- correct? (Not the input chambers)

I have one for sell, it first perfect! 90 shipped, less than a months use. It's the IM Midsize reactor!

I had the reactor in chamber two, and I ran rowaphos.

Why did you stop using it? Just curious :)

Seems like a pretty cool deal: $129.99 --> $89.99 shipped

I just emptied the wallet for my two InTank media baskets, so will get back to you on that as soon as I can

Not a problem, it'll be up until spoken for. I stopped using it because my tank is mostly lps/softy and my tank was too clean, xenia didn't like that... and I love my xenia.

Thanks- yeah Xenia is pretty cool :) I have a hermit crab with its shell covered in xenia- so funky looking!

Is that a torch coral, or long tentacle plate coral? Because I was under the impression that LPS cannot be ON sand or they get brown goo.

Torch coral, he's been on the sand for 3 years now. Also hosting clowns and there you have it!
