StevieT Posted December 10, 2014 Share Posted December 10, 2014 So shipping Jeff, our warehouse guy comes in the office this morning and asks if I want the water back on for the "water drip filter thingy" I though cool, showing initiative nice work. I was helping him build a large shelf this afternoon and saw he switched out the 5 gallon jugs to keep filling a new one. Wow, on top of the game keeping our RO/DI in-stock great work. I just went to turn it off for the day and notice the cold water valve is off.... The hot, ON Jeff, you've been running it with hot water the entire day? Yeah why is it supposed to be cold? Yes Jeff you most likely just fried the RO membrane. Just get that last order out I'll educate you later. So he didn't know, that's life. But why assume hot water? Why is running hot water heating it with gas all day the default? Gas bill high for the day, RO membrane shot, and labor paid to do the damage. Oh and he's shut if off at least 10 times over the past year. So he didn't remember he always shut off the right valve, the cold one? Stupid employees. Funny thing is he ships RO/DI units but didn't know what to call it. It's all part numbers to him, which is actually okay, less screw ups. I will bring my TDS meter tomorrow but what are the chances the 10 gallons he made today are good to use? Link to comment

That is right out of the faucet, so it goes through the filters then into the RO, how much it cools plus being run for 4 hours straight?? The filters are full so it can't be too much. The membrane was getting close to its life anyway, guess this forces a replacement sooner. Link to comment

Buzz this. put a "Y" on it with 2 valves. that's how I ran mine, it can be shut off independently of the wash machine, or both can be shut off with the main cold supply valve.. actually, they sell them as whole manifolds with like 4 valved connections if you really need more connections.. In an office of ~60 adults, a sign still doesn't work to get people to put their dirty dishes INTO the dishwasher... Job security someone will have to clean up after them. He knows it runs for hours and he's shut it off 30 times over the years. You have to shut off the cold valve or easier the on on the right. It's just not applying or retaining knowledge. It's on a Y. The supply valvels still has master control on hot or cold. He won't do it again just thought it was silly well, even if the readings are 0, I'm not sure I'd have a lot of faith in that membrane after that.. I'd have to change it for peace of mind.. I'm just wondering about the 10 gallons on hand that I need. Whatever I can get a new membrane at wholesale cost in a few days. Link to comment
