HOB filter suggestions

Hi all,

 

New member here, about 10 years of (large reef) SW experience, but recently moved and now setting up a 7 gal cube!

 

I need advice on a hang on filter, I think I might go with an aquaclear 70, but wanted to know if there's anything else out there... Is it large enough to be a fuge?

I was going to say a AC50 but if you want a fuge,a AC70 would be perfect. It'll supply more than enough flow too. If anything youd have to cut a fin off the impeller,but I don't think so. I have a AC70 impeller in my 50 with a fin cut off that's on my 2 gallon cube and the flow is almost not enough for my sps.

AC70 will be fine, very reliable as well

If I get a AC70, should i cut the fins if I make it a fuge?

 

Thinking low flow is better in a fuge.

 

Do people use these as fuges or load them up with filter floss/chemipure etc?

 

I would get a small powerhead for the main tank.

You can just get an AC30 or AC50 impeller for about $7 shipped on Amazon if the stock AC70 is too powerful. Way easier than cutting anything.

I'd say the AC70 impeller cut,is about equal to a AC50 flow. I have 3 diffrent impellers and can't tell the difference between the 2. Having a back up beer hurt though.

Fuge won't do much for you. I would do some filter floss and some chemical media

Depending on what you would like to keep also you still might want some additional flow to add to the AC70. Maybe a koralia nano 240 or 425....

Aquael versamax fzn 3 is very good, I have in 7 g tank is very good!

Filter media was recomandate Seachem Matrix or live rock and rowa phos or jbl carbomec ultra or po4 absorber!

I am very pleased with it Aquael versamax fzn3!
