picoreef78
It is sensitive to H2O2, comes back. Currently fixing a PO4 issue (0.10 ppm). NO3 0. Good predators? Tuxedo urchin etc? Link to comment
Boggers
Might have been easier to tell inside the tank were you can see how it grows. my Guess would be a caulerpa Urchins are good at eating most complex algae but they never get all of it. Mine do help keep it in check however. Link to comment
_divad
Kind of looks like bryopsis that someone has been chewing on. Picture of the algae in water would help with ID. Link to comment
picoreef78
I found the ID Bryopsis corticulans Looks kind of like Dill. Anyway H2O2 3% spritz to rocks, 5 minute period, RODI rinse and back to tank. Once a week for three weeks did the job. A few specs here and there from nooks and crannies that the urchin and turbo snails take care of. Link to comment
metrokat
Keep on it. Bryopsis comes back. Link to comment
picoreef78
Tell me about it, This stuff is a nightmare. I have been spraying nooks and crannies when a few strands sneak by. Luckily coraline algae is starting to colonize the rock. Link to comment

TheElysia
Any thoughts? Try growing it. It might turn out to be some cool new stuff, or worst case scenario, it's a good excuse to buy a cute little sea urchin. Link to comment
Snow_Phoenix
I know this sounds crazy, but I bought a Bryopsis + turf algae infested rock simply because it had two RFAs, one ball nem and multiple pink zoas, green zoas and usual brown Palys on it. My Halloween Urchin actually ate all the bryopsis and turf algae within 24 hours. My trochus snails cleared up whatever was leftover. So either I have a super powered urchin anomaly on my hands, or supremely good dumb luck. I'm inclined to think it's a mix of both actually. Link to comment

I'm inclined to think that your urchin may just have been super happy to see an abundance of yummy food. Like if someone just sat about 20 plates of your favorite food in front of you, you really couldn't resist, could you? Link to comment
Snow_Phoenix
Do you rent out that urchin? Oh, I'd love to! But for now, he's mineeeee! I would buy any amount of bryopsis rock for all that. I'm inclined to think that your urchin may just have been super happy to see an abundance of yummy food. Like if someone just sat about 20 plates of your favorite food in front of you, you really couldn't resist, could you? Oh yes, it was pretty much a buffet for him. Right now he's trying to sneak into my fuge to snack on my red macros but I caught him before he could do more damage. I'm almost thinking of culturing bryopsis in a separate tank for him to eat every once in a while. Link to comment

Yeah, the urchins clear out the algae superfast but then they run out of food. I had a tuxedo urchin before, cleared out the Bryopsis and I had to feed him the dried seaweed every day to keep him from starving. I think that a lot of people do that instead of culturing macro - but if you do try it, let me know how it works. I'm interested in culturing everything, haha. Link to comment

I believe my longest lasting urchin was a Tuxedo that went on for almost a year before snuffing it so suddenly. I'm supplementing my Halloween with dried Nori every two to three days once. Of course, if I want to culture Bryopsis for him, I need to get some Bryopsis to begin with. He loves the feathery type so far. Link to comment
afyounie
I haven't had bryopsis since I got my Mg stable and reduced my PO4 8 months ago. Even then it only grew on one rock. Was kind of pretty watching it wave about in the current. I know its still in the tank because it occasionally crops up on new plastic parts I put in the tank, then dies or is eaten. I didn't use Kent Mg. I used ESV Mg. Just getting the Mg up to acceptable levels was enough to kill it too. I made sure to pull as much out as possible as it died. Didn't want it releasing more nutrients back into the tank. Link to comment
