Wretched
Hello everyone! Long time dweller, semi-new reefer(4 years?). The name's Kyle! I have been reefing for about 4 years with multiple nano tanks! I'm an Army veteran so AIO/Nanos were pretty much my only choice being that I was always on the move. I currently have up a 45JBJ RL that has been up about 11 months or so: I've had most of these corals for 2-3 years and have been fragged 5-10 times each. They all started as one head/polyp etc. Great growth! Now! Onto the even better stuff... I'm going to setup another nano tank in my spare bedroom. I'm thinking a nuvo 10/16/20. I'm leaning more towards the 16, why? Because it's bigger than a 10 and smaller than a 20. I don't plan on taking down my 45, and just want something small, but enough real estate to work with. Over the years I have collected a ton of reefing equipment. Which means, all I really need is a tank! My plan is to use some of this equipment to build an awesome nano. Equipment: Tank: Innovative Marine FUSION 10 gallon Filtration: Chemi Pure Elite + Purigen w/ InTank Media basket Skimmer: Skimmer-less Lighting: Coral Compulsion 21w 18k w/ Gooseneck Heater: Eheim jager TruTemp Flow: Jebao RW-4(Not sure on which, I have both.) Stand: RSM 130D stand Sand: Carib Sea Indonesian Pacific Black ATO: Tunze Osmolator Nano By tonight/tomorrow i'll have the tank ordered, but I want your guys help on some additions/equipment that may be best etc. Your input and constructive criticism is welcomed! Thanks for looking! Link to comment

I know the coral compulsion comes stock with 60. I had the standard 60 degree on mine (same kind as yours). There are some FTS pictures in my build thread that show how much diffusion there is around the tank. I had to put mine about a foot above the water line to get good spread. Link to comment

Good to know, helps out a lot. Bought the 90* just to make sure. The gooseneck seems it'll be about 6-8" max off the waterline. I'm not sure if i'll be using the stock mesh. It seems to interfere with the light, no? Update: Tank has arrived, but I promised myself I won't get distracted until finals week is over with, so there it sits in the box still! Gooseneck comes today and InTank Media basket comes this saturday. I'm going to buy some live rock to seed my aquarium, I don't have any spare from my main display to throw into it unfortunately. Anyone recommend a good company to buy from? Thanks Link to comment
Wretched
Got the tank, and light up today! Expecting the InTank media rack saturday. ^ Can anyone recommend a good place in regards to my last post, thanks! Link to comment
teenyreef
Looks great! Like the pics. I haven't done one myself, but a lot of people have recommended making the mesh out of tulle fabric. The stock screen does block some light and it makes a pattern on the sand. For live rock, there are lots of good reviews for KP Aquatics and for Gulf Live Rock. I got uncured live rock from KP Aquatics and I've been pretty happy. Great coralline, practically no cycle because it was shipped overnight and I put it in the tank quickly, and lots of nice other stuff like feather dusters, macroalgae, sponges, etc.. On the other hand, there is risk of nuisance algae - I have a lot of Dictoya. Both companies will sell both cured and uncured. Link to comment
Wretched
Thanks for the reply, i'll check them out! I just need a couple pieces I have a ton of dry rock but maybe i'll get lucky and score a couple pieces of nice nano rock! Link to comment
Wretched
Update: Whoever says aquascaping is easy is lying! Been trying to find a good scape with lots of flat shelf rock to place zoas/acans, and still have a cave type with crevasses. The tank is cloudy, and the lights very blue. Tell me what you think! I may order more rock to see what else I can come up with. Link to comment
Wretched
We're getting somewhere. Today I wired everything up, and put some purigen in. I haven't really "started" the cycle yet... Just testing all equipment. I'll probably get a piece of seeder rock. Here's an update: Now I just need a ATO container to throw my pump in! Link to comment
teenyreef
Looks great! Very clean wiring job. Is that a digital timer for the light? Link to comment
Wretched
Looks great! Very clean wiring job. Is that a digital timer for the light? Yes it is, 10$ on amazon, sweet! Im using an old salt bucket that I have for my ATO. Cleaned it out, now I am filling it up w/ RODI. Most likely ordering some live rock this weekend to start the cycle! Link to comment
uwwmatt
I like it. Nice work. Link to comment
Wretched
I like it. Nice work. Thank you! Update: I bought 10lbs of uncured live rock from marco rocks to seed the tank and some E marco 400 cement to redo my aquascape! Woot! Link to comment

Wretched
BAD NEWS EVERYONE. Apparently I got a defective unit. Just sitting on the couching watching TV I hear a loud crash. The bottom of the goose neck decided to shatter which led to the whole light sizzling inside of the tank. I contacted Coral Compulsion, and they offered me a return on the fixture and the light bulb at no hesitation. So that's good. Everything else is working except my pump to the tank... Good thing I have spare Maxi Jet 900! Link to comment
da1001
That sucks man. Glad you didn't have to change your pants after that one, I would have!! Link to comment
teenyreef
Eeeeek! How disappointing Glad to hear CC is taking care of you, though. I've still got my PAR30 even though a couple people offered to buy it. I need to keep it as an emergency spare I didn't buy their fixture, though. I just bought a cheap clamp-on fixture from Target, and it worked great. Link to comment
Wretched
Yea, Jimmy @ CC without hesitation refunded my account. I got a defective unit, it happens unfortunately. So i'm going to go a different route. Would a Kessil A150 Sky Blue be over kill? i'll mostly have acans/zoas. Or maybe a wave-point 18w fixture? Link to comment
da1001
Ive got the Kessil 150 ocean blue atm. Its not too bad. There is a definite hum that comes from its internal fan that keeps things coo,l but its not too bad now that I am around it more and more. Since yours is in the living room it shouldn't be too bad. They just came out with a Kessil 160 though, its dimmable, etc. for only $25 or so more. You could get that and have your light at sky blue and then if that gets boring crank it over to true actinic or somewhere in between. Mine can't do that, kicking myself now for not shelling out more when I was shopping for my light. I might still change up the light before I get everything fully operational, who knows? Thanks for this info. Are you using the goose neck with it? Im wondering if it's too much power for mostly acans/zoas. Link to comment
