samuelhorn
Hi! So I've been lurking the net for a month (had this hobby in mind for a couple of years but never pulled the trigger). Spending several hours a day looking at people's reefs at YouTube, reading stories here etc. I've come to the conclusion on what kind of size & style I want. And I think I have the technology pretty narrowed down to a couple off more or less essential items. Now I want to here your opinions. Is this a good start setup? Did I pick a good return pump for my overflow? Is there a better skimmer for this setup? And so on. I'm planning to start as easy as possible, keep a few fishes (3-4 max). A small cleaning crew. Some easy corals to start with. Tank: Optiwhite glass ~23 gallons, ~24x16x14" ~0.2" thick (89l, 600x400x350, 5mm thick). Sump: Basic ~12 gallons. Overflow: Mame overflow. Return: Eheim compact 2000. Light: Kessil a360w. Skimmer: Bubble magus NAC 3.5. Flow: Vortech MP10 or Jebao wp25 Stand: DYI/IKEA, high gloss white, clean looking. Looking forward to tips and opinions from a great community, can't wait to start my build thread Best Regards Samuel in Sweden Link to comment
da1001
I will let someone else chime in the skimmer/return as I have never had a sumped tank before, but what you have listed seems like a good start. Just don't forget your other possible essentials: Reef Putty for holding rock work together, if you choose to use it Misc. Cleaning ingredients such as charcoal, chemipure, filter floss etc if you choose to use them at all Heater Salt Mix Rock and Sand Refractometer Test Kit RO/DI unit and ATO unit Cleaning supplies, algae scraper, cleaning bucket, tongs, etc. Trash cans and various assorted containers for holding dirty and clean water in while doing maintenance Another heater and powerhead of some sort for mixing your clean salt water Not trying to scare you away, just making sure you have everything you will need beforehand. to the addiction!
