Noppy
I know there are a few threads and fixes out there for this skimmer but I had two common parts laying around that made this awesome skimmer silent and reduce bubbles. Heres what I used (Not included with the Aquamaxx). An airline connector OR backflow, OR flow control piece. A normal filter for a Danner 350gph mag drive pump (I removed the inside plastic piece) Ok so here is what to do with the airline connector OR other similar piece Yep that simple, just put it right in the tube and my train noise went away! Now, I'm sure some people are saying that this will limit airflow and hinder the skimmer. Probably true and I'm sure you can use an airflow connecter to get it to just the right limit that cuts off the noise But... can you tell a difference in bubble production before and after in these photos? ok, second fix is taking the filter and sticking it on the end of the return filter. I took off the 90 elbow and just have the tee to straight plastic pipe and the filter just pulls over the tube and tee: limits suction noise to very infrequent trickle and makes it so the larger bubbles and micro bubbles aren't shooting around my tank, popping and hastening salt creep. Also, I just got this yesterday, so I'm still tuning it in, I just wanted to share these really quick and cheap tricks! Link to comment
HVani
Yes! The airline trick didn't work great for me. Most of my connectors wouldn't fit. I tried a airline connector and it didn't work great but seemed to help. The sponge trick tough totally stopped my microbubbles. Thanks for the tips! Link to comment
Noppy
HVani, I'm sure you have seen it on other forums, but if you have had your skimmer for a while the airline can build up salt creep and make a similar noise. I have heard suggestions ranging from shooting RODI water down the airline tube to fully cleaning out the skimmer including taking apart the pump and cleaning it out. I just knew it was an airflow thing in mine because the sound went away when i fully or partly squeezed the airline tube. That, and the fact that I just installed it new meant there was likely no salt creep. Hope you find an easy solution, and I'm glad the filter worked!! Link to comment
