Pico build

Got a little impulsive today. Picked up a 2.2g deep blue rimless today. Just going to run a Par30 over it. Picked up a small piece of marco rock. Going to keep it bare bottom. Also picked up a cheap hob filter for it. Should be a cool little tank. Thinking just zoas and maybe lps.

Yeah I plan on keeping the tank bare bottom. My past two tanks have been bare bottom and I've really liked it. Also the tank only hold 1.5 gallons of water, I really think with sand it would turn into a nightmare trying to keep the sand from blowing around.

I love these little tanks. I have a TruAqua 8"x8" tank. Zoa's and Acan's would be perfect for that piece of rock, which is a super nice center piece man.

My thoughts were just completely cover that rock with different zoas and let them grow into each other then have some ricordeas on the bottom of the tank.

Its going through the cycle. I actually got some water from a year old tank and a small piece of LR to help it along. The guy who gave me the water and rock accidentally broke off a small acro frag and goes, wanna throw that in the to see what it does? Yeah sure why the hell not. It looks pretty ugly under the 6500k bulb so I just need to find a 12k-14k par30 bulb to put over it.

I think the tank should cycle quick with that water and piece of LR. HOPEFULLY the SPS makes it thru, that'd be awesome. Some high end Zoa's and LPS would be suck.

A guy in the hardware section actually has some BoostLED par bulbs for sale. Idk if you wanna check them out. 2 for $100 shipped I believe.

Yeah I asked him if he'd split them up. 2 for $100 is a great deal but I just need one. I thought about putting together a diy light for it but really don't feel like dealing with it, I still have to finish the sump build and light build for my 75g. Maybe in the future after the 75g is running for a bit I'll build a light for this little tank. Im pretty stoked about this tank though.

I take it he wasn't down for that ? I know how you feel man. I was thinking about offering you my light I have, but idk if I'm not going to be using it once I get my 7 gallon running again. It's over the same size tank.

Let me know though if you make one,I've got a few extra leds,CLG PSU I could sell you for super cheap,I have a small Heatsink too but don't know if they'd fit. All you'd need is a driver (Rapids nano driver) maybe.

I mean, the tank is on a book shelf so I could always run the wiring from the fixture to one of the shelves and keep the driver there. Was size is the heatsink?

Thanks Kat! I got a couple ideas for lighting that I think are going to really clever. So this tank is in my office and I like the look of it with the tiny tank, the lamp and the bookshelf. I might try to incorporate a round heatsink in the lamp itself and then just place the driver on one of the shelves in like, a fake hollowed out book of some sort.

I believe its 6"x4". Inside is milled where the leds are,and a acrylic splash gaurd is bolted to it.

You could always just use a 3up with white and 2 blues and get a round heatsink from rapid which is I think 1" in diameter and mount it in the socket of the light. Pair it with a 350ma moonlight driver and you're good, especially for Zoa's and LPS's. Evil projected I should be getting around 80-100 par at the bottom of my .9 gallon cube I had with that driver.

The hallowed out book idea would be really cool to hide everything in.

Okay, maybe I don't like 6500k lighting. Thing looks like a turd.

Yes, but an ALIVE turd. ;) It will really pop once you get that new bulb, hang in there man!
