What's the longest you have had a fish in a bag?

I work out of town and a LFS has a tailspot blenny I want. Problem is I work an 8 hour shift then drive home. I have a good cooler. Think the fish will be ok for about 12 hours?

Could you buy it now and pick it up after work? I'd much prefer to do that personally, and if they are decent they will do it no problem.... That said, they get shipped overnight and are in boxes for atleast 12-16hrs min typically so its not a big deal, but they also get shipped with air and a heat pack if needed. Not sure where you are but here it can get pretty cold in a car for 12 hrs...

If the LFS can provide the bluish colored oxygen saturated water and you keep the fish in the 70 to 80 degree range then it will be just fine. Fish are bagged for at least that long when they are being shipped. I would shoot for low 70's and keep the bag in the dark like a cooler or closed box to minimize stress.

I have read something about acclimating them after that period of time. When the bag is opened and oxygen begins mixing with the water an ammonia spike can occur. What are your recommendations for acclimating?
