Greetings to all of you from Denmark.
I am in the process of moving from a 14 gallon tank and up to a 30 gallon drop off tank. There's still a lot to do, so I figured to get a thread going, so you can follow along :)
So far, I have come up with a scape, that I think I'll stick with for now. I'm not 100% sure if I need to do a few changes, but we'll see when I have taken my time to look at it for a while

As mentioned, a lot of work is still ahead, and I need to build a canopy and base for screening off the space under the shelf. Upgrade the light with some DIY LEDs. Close off the overflow and paint the background. Sort out the sump and clean up the mess in the stand. Put in some sand, and the list goes on :)

Thank you both. Yes, there's going sand in there. Or rather I just put it in. It ptobably would have been easier to put it in before the rock, but as I was moving rocks from a former tank, that I did suspect (with reason) to carry a bit of detritus, that I didn't want to go into my new sand, and as I knew I would have to rearrange the rocks to get a scape that I wanted to stick with, I decided to wait until after. I had planned to use a pvc pipe, to get it to the bottom, but as that turned out to be totally impractical, I just used a good old mug, witch worked really well.

The Water is a little clouded, but I'm sure that will be gone by tomorrow.

I just realized how much I prefer sand to BB :D

Very nice! How did you build it?

Thanks :)

It's just a plain tank in which I glued an overflow and next to that I put in a glass shelf, supported by some vertical glass panes, thus sealing of the space under the shelf. It's a bit of a waste of water volume, but a hell of a lot easier than building the tank itself as a drop and perfectly aligning the stand levels. The method I used is pretty straight forward, I think :)

Cool! What was the original tank size? 40B? 55?

Something like 32 gallon, actually. The drop, being in front of the overflow, only takes up something like 3 gallon. So the 30 gallon in my headline might be more like 28-29 gallon.

The tank meassures 75x40x40cm

Just ordered a Bubble Magus C3.5 and a new jebao return pump. Really looking forward to get these on the tank and hear the noise level from these :)

Very nice.... custom tank?

Thank you :)

Well at least not custom build for me. I bought it used but in very good condition. It does look like it's a custom tank. The glass baffles that form the reef shelf I glued in myself.

Is there anything under the "shelf" of the tank?

Would be cool to set up something like this on a tiered desk or stand..... Or a way to have a refugium display under it or something....

No. It's just sealed off. I have thought a lot about how to use the space and the coolest idea I could come up with was filling it with sand and make a DSB area. The depth would be perfect on this build. However I came to the conclusion that the area of the sand bed would be too little to keep it healthy in the long run without too much work on finding suitable rechanges for it.

It could also be very cool, as you say, to have it on a tiered stand. That would have to be a custom tank though, as my tank take up the room of regular 32 gallon tank, as that is exactly what it is build in :)

I'm trying to figure out which fish to put into the drop. So far my list is (in order of addition)

Orange/white ocillaris (already in)

Black/white ocillaris

Tail spot/bicolor blenny (depending on availability. Tsb is not too common at these parts)

Royal gramma

Sixline wrasse

I know the sixline can become a menace, but I think I'm willing to take the chance on it. Tell me what you think? :)

Equipment list so far
Tank w. custom reef drop (75x40x40 ; cm)
Jebao rw8
Possible addition of wp10 linked with rw8 through twin controller)
2x24watt t5 (aquablue spezial and blue+)
12x3watt cree (mixed colours)
Sump (16 gallon)
Bubble Magus Cone 3.5
Jebao DC 2000 return (in the mail)
DIY reactor with phosban
100watt jäger heater

My ATO fried, but new float switches are in transit so it should be operational again shortly.
Also I have plans for an UAS when the tank gets stocked a little harder

So the skimmer arrived yesterday. I ran it in some vinegar before putting it in the sump and have been running it there for the last 20 hours or so. Already starting to pull some skimate, and the microbubbles are gone by now as well :)

Very good quality for the price (80$), if you ask me. It gives off a little noise, but nothing I (or my wife) can't live with. Only real complain so far, is that it didn't come with an air intake silencer (nor was it specified to do so). The intake was quite noisy, and you would think that the added production cost would be worth it in lowered noise. However a very quick DIY, and a silencer was added. Much better now :)

The GHA is slowly starting to fade, so I'm picking up a CUC tuesday. I really need a emerald crab as I've been battling bubble algae for ever, and am not making any progress so far. They rarely sell them at LFSs over here, so I cross my fingers that I will be able to find one :)

So the skimmer has been running for almost a week, and I have a little bit better idea about it. Sadly it does give off a little more noise than what I had hoped for. Maybe I just need to soundproof my stand a little, and see if that helps. On the bright side it gives a very good and dark skimmate already, so I'm very pleased with that aspect.

My only semi LFS did not stock emerald crabs at the moment, so I only got a few snails which I hope will take care if the remaining algae. A few weeks into the new year, he should get a new shipment at which point I count on getting a crab and a fish.

Can you guys help me ID my zoas, maybe? :)

The LFSs around here don't know anything about them, so they usually don't have any names...
