Guits
I'm not sure if anyone else has posted on this yet, but there is an article in today's Times about coral conservation efforts in Florida. My reef keeping interest is in Florida/Caribbean biotopes, so I quite enjoyed reading about their efforts. If I remember correctly, this group was also profiled in a past issue of "Coral The Reef & Marine Aquarium Magazine" but sadly I seem to have lost this issue during my move. If you are interested in this topic, there was also an article entitled "Coral Care & Restoration" in the "2014 Annual Coral & Reef USA" magazine that talks about conservation efforts in Florida. Below is the link to the NYT article. Please refrain from scoffing at their rather basic description of fragging corals and particularly how they "discovered" how to frag corals - remember these are people trying to save our native reefs, plus this article is aimed towards the general public, not those involved in the reef hobby. Personally I think there is no need to make fun of their "Eureka mistake" and to turn this otherwise seemingly positive example of efforts in conservation into a negative thread making fun of them. Anyways, enjoy! http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/25/science/a-lifesaving-transplant-for-coral-reefs.html Link to comment
