Best Skimmer

Looking for recommendations for internal skimmers for IM NUVO Fusion 20. I know they make their own AUQA Gadgets ghost desktop skimmer, but I've read some bad reviews on it. Anything else worth considering, that will fit in the back compartment?

I was an early adopter on the Ghist skimmer. I had some issues but IM was great to work with and found a solution. I would recommend them. I'm considering adding a second skimmer and it will be a Ghost.

I ended up going with the ghost protein skimmer. How long was your break in period?

Once the ghost skimmer breaks in, it creates a thick foam. I got one on my Nuvo Fusion 10G and it works great.

Run it in a Vinegar bath over night and there really isn't a break in period.

Break in is a slime coat on the inside. vinegar won't help with that.

Of course, the skimmer production will depend on the quality of the water, but I vinegar bath does expedite the process. The bath will remove the manufacturing diets and oils. It is also my r commendation to periodically clean the skimmer with a vinegar bath. Not my original idea, but I do it, and it helps rejuvenate an old skimmer.

Yep. It helps clean any aquarium equipment. But the main thing of a skimmer break in is a slime coat which helps foam fraction into the cup.

That was my understanding as well. I do use vinegar for cleaning, just never used it for breaking in a skimmer.

It's been running for about a week, but still with lots of micro-bubbles.

I'm thinking 2-4 week break-in period for most skimmers? I was just seeing what most people are seeing with the IM Ghost skimmers?

So majority votes IM Ghost Skimmer is sufficient enough for the IM Nuvo Fusion 20? Will it work with bio-pellets? I've been also debating about the PicoSkim 2.0 as well for the back compartment in my IM Nuvo Fusion 20. Just scared with the Ghost skimmer as I'm sure i've read the same reviews you did.

Is appears mine has broken in. It's been about 1 1/2 weeks. It's putting out thicker skimmate. There are still some bubbles, but I put filter floss between the skimmer and return chamber and it reduced them significantly. I think it's just a matter of time until they're mostly gone. I also raised the cup about 2/3 above the skimmer as suggested in several threads, with good results. Hope this helps.

Check out the JNS WS-1. I am considering upgrading to that for my CAD 34G Mini. I did not check the dimensions for the Fusion 20, but I think it will fit.

can you post a photos? Any regrets to it now or you are satisfied with the results?

I checed on the JNS WS1 and unforunately its a a bit bigger than the skimmer/heater compartment would allow (4"x3" compartment). I have a tunze osmolator in my setup and with my light fixture and float valve in the return chamber, there really isnt room for anything else. I just cant seem to find anything that I feel comfotable enough to handle bio-pellets.

How about a video of the skimmer working correctly?

Definitely seems to be doing a good job there! What exactly are the dimensions again for the Ghost skimmer? Do you trust it working with biopellets?

My tank is only 10G and I don't use biopellets and have no experience with that. Sorry can't help you there.

Dimensions for desktop ghost skimmer :

3.58" x 2.28" x 9.84"

(L) x (W) x (H)

hmmm well I guess I'll have to look back into the Ghost Skimmer..Shouldnt have any fitment issues with my IM Nuvo Fusion 20. I'll definitely pick up a skimmer first though before getting some bio pellets

The IM desktop skimmer is specifically made to fit perfectly into nuvo fusion 10g and 20g. You can put the IM mini max all in one media reactor in the other chamber. It's also made to fit perfectly there too.

Ah ok, I know I'm going to go with the IM Media reactor but what size skimmer would fit and perform best? Desktop or Mid-size protein skimmer? Will the Mid-size fit in the 20g Nuvo Fusion? I would like to go with the Desktop version but I'm curious if its capable enough of maintaining the bio-load from the biopellets. Any thoughts?

The midsize is designed for the bigger IM tanks and it would stick out too much. You would need to go with the desktop version.
