chrisnif
I'm looking for something a bit different for my JBJ NC24 reef tank. I'm going to be doing mostly softies, but want to stay mostly safe. Anyway I want a pair of fancy clowns and beyond that I want something "different" maybe there's a puffer who would get along okay in the small tank? Link to comment
ndrobey
Sooner or later, a puffer will eat the clowns. Even if you get a small puffer, it will grow. When it gets big enough to fit a clown in its mouth, it will. Link to comment
CronicReefer
Most puffers require large tanks because of the size they grow to. I don't know of any puffers that would be well suited for a tank your size. I have a lobster with my clowns for something "different" but these creatures love to hide. Just look around more on google and you will find the right fish. Link to comment
nanoreefnate
Yeah all of the true saltwater puffers would be too large for your aquarium. The brackish water puffer, the Green spotted puffers can be acclimated to saltwater and grow to 6 inches. Link to comment
CronicReefer
See if this can be done with a figure 8 puffer. They are another small brackish water puffer Link to comment
chrisnif
I had a blue spotted puffer in a tank previous, but he might have just been young, was like 3 inches. I just want something striking. Maybe a black cap basselet for the color pop. Link to comment
jestep
Dwarf golden moray. Coral crouchers. A toby / valentini puffer is probably ok in there. Wartskin Angler but they don't move a whole lot. Super cool fish especially if you can find one of the yellow spongy looking ones. Link to comment

Halo_003
I would also consider something like an assessor of some sort. I plan on getting a gold one personally. Link to comment
jedimasterben
Yeah all of the true saltwater puffers would be too large for your aquarium. I take you've never heard of the genus Canthigaster, have you? Link to comment
clownfitch
If you are looking for a small sized puffer look into the Toby Puffer or Valentini Puffer. Both will do fine in a 30 gallon tank and only grow to 3" or so. Link to comment
