tentacruelz
Anyone have experience with fragging GSP? I got a piece of gsp yesterday from my lfs that was scraped off the glass of a tank, so there isn't any rock attached to it. The dude said to rubber band it to a rock and it'd take hold in a couple days. Just wondering if anyone can let me know what to expect here? They haven't shown any sign of opening up yet, will they not open until they anchor to the rock? Link to comment
mrBananas
I've superglued the bottom of the purple mat to hold it down. Just do a couple small dots to get an anchor started. They'll open up once they've settled in. Link to comment

mrBananas
I've had them close up for a day at a time before. It's not unusual for corals to close up when added to a new system. Give them a couple days and they should open up. Link to comment
tentacruelz
I'm not worried about it yet, I just want to know what I should be expecting.. Link to comment
streamline.by.design
Give it time. They are virtually indestructible and will spread like crazy. Make sure you don't mount it on a rock you don't want 100% covered. Soon you will be able to frag and turn in for store credit at your LFS. Rubberband, super glue, pin it down with another rock and it will quickly attach. Link to comment
vegasgundog
My gsp grows insane amounts. When it starts to cross the sand I pull it off and super glue it to rock pieces. Pick a rock you likeep and glue it down. May be angry for a day or two but it will fill your rock in no time. Link to comment
tentacruelz
Thanks for the input, I banded them to a rock that I absolutely want completely covered.. its been a little over 24 hours. From the looks of them, I wouldn't expect them to open up for at least another day or 2. It's my first coral so its hard to be patient! ;p Link to comment
tentacruelz
GSP is a pretty resilient coral so i wouldn't worry about it - assuming your tank is within preferred parameters. i used the same rubber band technique when i first got my branching gsp and it worked perfectly fine, just give it some time. How long did it take them to take hold? how long did you wait to take the band off? And how long did it take for them to open up? I feel like that are starting to stick a little but I can tell they still need the band Link to comment
Mkus
Mine jumped to the back wall love looks great! Link to comment
Polarcollision
It will come around. It's so resilient that I'm using a piece as a tester coral to let me know when the cycle is finished on a long term quarantine tank. Link to comment
tentacruelz
Idk, my piece is still not doing well.. I ended up taking the rubber band off a few days ago and glueing it to an old shell.. I placed it somewhere with decent flow and good lighting.. Not too hopeful on this one. I can tell pieces of it have died where the rubber band was.. a little bit of it flaked away.. I'm pretty surprised about this one. My tank is doing well, its healthy and all my levels check out.. It's been in there almost a week, haven't seen any signs of a polyp yet. Link to comment
cju84
My GSP took a few days to open up (and maybe a full week until it fully opened), whereas the frogspawn/palythoas opened the same day I put them in the tank. Link to comment

I've heard of gsp taking some time to open. If it doesn't work out, I will just buy a frag thats already attached to something. I'll let you all know if it ends up working out for me. Link to comment

Not sure if you are set on attaching it to your rock or not, but you definitely don't have to. Link to comment

I've also thought about attaching it to my back wall.. that looks pretty cool too. Link to comment
CosmicCanine
Tent. The more you mess around with it, the longer it will take to open, Set it. leave it for a week. if its not open in a full week without you touching it, you killed it. But i highly doubt its dead. its just very pissed that you keep moving it. BTW: gluing is better thann rubberband because you dont crush the polyps. Link to comment
tentacruelz
Its only been moved once because I seen the rubber band killing the purple mat.. Its glued now Tent.
