aviator300
I have what appears to be an unidentified Anemone growing out of a crack in the live rock i have in my Mantis tank (Spooky Mantis Mountain). It's really cool looking and has numerous lightning bolt shaped tentacles that are constantly pulsating and extending in and out of it's crack in the rock. It retracts when touched but takes solid food when i put it near. In the photo it is the white tentacled thing just to the right of the small red baby Sea Squirt. I sure would like to get this thing identified so i can decide whether or not i want to keep it. In addition to keeping a Mantis in this tank, i also consider it to be kind of a pest tank and i'm finding all kinds of cool things on the rock (which is uncured live rock from "Gulf live rock". Chris333
After having mine tank up for a few weeks I just saw one of these yesterday. Keeps bringing random arms to it's mouth. Wonder if it is really catching stuff or just on a set repeat course. Could it be a sea cucumber? Link to comment
FinzAquatics
That is pretty awesome. Good catch! Link to comment
Dr.Brain Coral
Definitely a sea cucumber Link to comment
afyounie
Looks like a basket star. They typically die within aquaria due to lack of food. They filter through the water column for their food. Link to comment
Dr.Brain Coral
The tentacles are to fine to be a basket star. Basket stars have more branch like tentacles Link to comment

Chris333
My rock was also from Gulf Live Rock and I know there were 2 sea cucumbers in there, but till yesterday I hadn't seen them open their mouth like this. And FWIW the one I saw yesterday has disappeared back into the rocks now. They come in different colors, found this too: http://blog.seattleaquarium.org/marine-animals/plankton/ Link to comment
