aquageek
Yeah you can break it up with a hammer and a chisel (or a screw driver you don't care about). It's ok to have more rock than you need. It gives you more rock to work with when you are designing a scape - you don't have to use all of it. I have a box in my basement with some rock that I am not using. You never know when you may need some rock... maybe for another build, or to use as rubble in a fuge. You never know. Also you do not need 14 pounds of rock just because your tank is 14G. The 1 pound per gallon of rock is to be taken with a grain of salt and is more of a guide line than a rule. The whole purpose of the rock is to give your inhabitants places to live and hide, coral placement, and to act as a biological filtration medium. Beneficial bacteria will grow on your rock and as the water passes through it, it will help to clean your water column. Ideally you just want a good amount of surface area for water to flow through. Do what you think looks good. Link to comment

HVani
Also remember that dry rock does not weigh as much as live rock since it's, well dry. Good start. I started with a BC14. I learned a ton from that tank. Link to comment
HIppieRose
I darkened the picture some cause you can't really see all the holes in the rock with that bright light. lol Link to comment
