Mounting Chalice and Montipora? (with pictures)

Hello Everyone,

I purchased two really nice pieces of a Hollywood Stunner Chalice and Red Cap Montipora. They have been in the sand bed for the past three days adjusting to my Kessil 360 light. I am just not sure how and where to mount them. Here are some pictures from the first day:

Nice color on that red cap?. I'd place it on the side rock- the ones above the clowns that way you can leave the middle and top for any SPS you might want down the road that require stronger lighting. Just remember if you permanently mount the cap - as it grows it will shade corals below it- so just be careful not to shade that hammer or torch ? below it - looks like the cap could go more towards the back of that rock?

I'd leave chalice in sand and place the monti on that top center rock on theeft side.

Thanks! I am honestly trying to leave the sand bed empty, because I don't want it to look too crowded. I was thinking of putting it vertically above where my Flame Angel is. I was thinking the same with the Montipora!

Thanks for the feedback. I seriously love that red cap; I just want to make sure I don't bleach it. My lights only ramp up to 30% since I've heard Kessil lights can be too strong for some coral. I would like to go higher but afraid of bleaching. I would like to glue down the cap and Chalice, but for some reason by coral glue doesn't work that great; I need some coral putty. Any recommendation where to put the chalice?

Not sure on the chalice- I don't have experience with them. Your coral glue should work- what is the cap frag mounted on- plug? If it's not encrusted to much you can take it out and with a razor blade pop it off the plug- then glue it-or at least take some nippers and remove the stem so the base is flat. Dry off the base and squirt a fair amount on it- place it - slight twist and leave it- should be good to go. Drying the base really helps

It's not so much the glue not sticking to the coral...it's more the glue not sticking to the live rock in the tank.

take some epoxy putty, coat the back with super glue and mush it into the rock, then put glue between the coral and the putty

Thanks guys for the recommendations! This is what I'm thinking. The red circle is for the Montipora and the green circle is for the Chalice. The arrow is the direction I'm hoping the Montipora grows.

Looks like a good plan, just be sure to take the fact that the chalice can put off some nasty sweepers

Absolutely. I turned on my the room lights last night and caught a glimpse of the sweeping tentacles on the chalice...my goodness! :o The tentacles must of been 2-3 inches long. How would you recommend mounting a chalice? I have reef glue and have never had much success being able to mount a coral.

yea they can be deadly, I have mine Bana she'd twords the back of the tank. Try and use the flow in your tank to sweep them away from anything too valuable.
