Cycling but AMMONIA won't spike

Hi guys!

Just looking for your input!

So my tank is up and running... I use Dr Tim's nitrifying bacteria to start the cycle and his ammonium chloride to feed the bacteria. The tank is 25 gallons so I added 25 drops of ammonia. The tank has been up for 4 days.

The ammonia is at .25 ppm from day 2 to day 4

The ammonia is supposed to be at 2-3 ppm!

What's should I do?

Please help!

Dr tims is used for leveling out the ammonia not creating it. Add a small cocktail shrimp then add the dr tim s. You're puttung the carriage before the horse.

The bacteria you need take weeks not days to establish.

This.

Although if you have enough bacteria from the beginning and ample food source, it can take less time. :) But yes, throw in a shrimp.

I personally like to buy seafood mix, puree it, then spread all over the tank.

The seafood itself would contain plenty of bacteria, which when distributed with the food, would then consume said food and reproduce crazily. :3 Or so I believe.

NO NO NO. I think these guys misunderstood you BRADYBUNCH7. dont use nasty rotting shrimp, just add 1.5 drops of ammonia per gallon and test the next day. The ammonia level probably didn't rise much because Dr Tims bacteria started to work on it already.

I think atrox didn't realize that you were already adding a source of ammonia in the form of Ammonium Chloride.

I put his ammonia chloride in my tank and it never really showed up on test kits for seven days. Now on the 8th day I have 1.5ppm of ammonia. Dry rock and sand so no other sources of ammonia. I'm not sure, but I have heard of this happenning before, so I suspect that, initially, the type of ammonia used in Dr Tims is' not detected by some test kits...I'm only aware of two types of ammonia though - free and ionized.

Problem is, you aren't feeding the bacteria. Ammonia is just an energy source, the bacteria still needs something to feed on. To develop and reproduce massively.

I did forgot to ask. Are you using live rock or base rock?

Or more precise, are there plenty of life (dying) on whatever rock you are using? Assuming you have rocks in there?
