Is this for a pump for a return or more of a powerhead for flow?

 

If it's for a return deal, my favorite pumps are Eheim. Dpeending on the flow you want (gph) I have used the Compact 300, Compact 600 and Compact 1000 and all are relatively silent and operate well. I have never had an issue with excessive heat either Very reliable pumps.

 

I would reccomend the Eheim Compact 600, as you can always dial it down if need be.
