TassieGirl
Hi there, I am currently cycling a 6G nano tank. Cycling with LR. I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to do any water changes while its cycling but my ammonia today is at 4.0 (yesterday was 0) - is this getting a little high? Should I do a small water change or just leave it? Link to comment
aquageek
Do you have any livestock in the tank? If not, I would just leave it. Over time as the beneficial bacteria builds the ammonia will lower along with your nitrite. Also, welcome to Nano-Reef Link to comment
erinwillett
Don't change the water during the cycle. You need ammonia in order to make the cycle happen. Link to comment
TassieGirl
Just today I found 2 snails come out of the rock... thats the only livestock in there. Link to comment
aquageek
Yep just leave it. Don't add anything until your ammonia and nitrite read zero. Once that happens, do a water change and add a clean up crew. Link to comment
TassieGirl
Cool... thank you Link to comment
cju84
+1 what Aquageek said. Also, post a pic of the tank with the rock. We want to see! Welcome to NR! Link to comment

TassieGirl
Unfortunately I noticed yesterday that the top lot of LR has a lot of aiptasia growing.... very tiny at the minute (2-3mm). Thats frustrating. Link to comment
Pinner Reef
Yeah, the Aptasia need to die if you can do it. make sure they are Aptasia as opposed to feather dusters. Link to comment
TassieGirl
Yes thank you... Not so sure now. Link to comment
Horerczy
not a feather duster. almost looks like xenia, could be but probably aiptasia, kill it with fire. Link to comment
cju84
Agreed, kill it with fire. (turkey baster/syringe with boiling/very hot water applied directly on the source should kill it). Just don't burn yourself Link to comment
Pinner Reef
Hmm hard to say, could be Aptasia or Anthelia coral. Anthelia can be pretty intrusive so I say kill them. Anthelia: Link to comment
