teenyreef
In an effort to eventually get some blue in this tank, I moved a frag that had one polyp of "Baby Back Blue Eyed" zoas from my 4g tank. They almost all melted in that tank, just as they were starting to do well, due to an alkalinity drop. I was really sad because they were some of my favorite zoas They've started to recover, but all of the recovering polyps were ones that had expanded off the original frag plug. Of all the polyps on the plug, only one survived. When I was doing some cleaning the other day, the frag plug got knocked off, and I decided that it was a Sign that it should be moved to the 10g tank, right up front So here's hoping that it continues to recover and grow in this tank. I don't have a picture of it yet, but it's opened up already, so that's a good sign. Here's a picture of the original colony back in the good old days: https://flic.kr/p/qUPCaZ'>https://flic.kr/p/qUPCaZ'>Baby Back Blue Eyed Zoas by https://www.flickr.com/people/15628054@N06/'>TeenyReef, on Flickr 7 Quote Link to comment
teenyreef
Love that limpet. Thanks! There's several of them in the tank but this is the only one that's grown big enough to get a picture. In the interest of full disclosure here's a picture of the actual zoa polyp that I put in the tank. He's lonely but has opened up nicely, so hopefully there will more polyps soon. Baby Back Blue Eyed Zoa by TeenyReef, on Flickr I also played around with the macro lens with a much shorter exposure, trying to get a picture of one of the micro-hermits. This one is in a cerith shell about 3/4 of an inch long. He was moving quick so it wasn't easy taking his picture Hermit Crab by TeenyReef, on Flickr 7 Quote Link to comment
teenyreef
I promised Gena I'd post a picture of the Idaho Grape Monticap. It started as half of a broken frag, about an inch long. Now it's about 2 1/2" inches long, growing fast, and starting to cup https://flic.kr/p/qG3D5d'>https://flic.kr/p/qG3D5d'>Gena's Idaho Grape Monti Cap by https://www.flickr.com/people/15628054@N06/'>TeenyReef, on Flickr I don't think I've posted a picture of the Blasto Merlettis I got a while back. They're towards the back corner, and the dayglow green color tends to blast out the camera sensor. This is first picture I've gotten where you could even tell what they are https://flic.kr/p/q2Qrf8'>https://flic.kr/p/q2Qrf8'>Green Blasto Merlettis by https://www.flickr.com/people/15628054@N06/'>TeenyReef, on Flickr 8 Quote Link to comment

antsypants
Your tank looks really good jealous of all the color! Even your clean up crew is colorful haha I'd love a small limpet population. Following along, can't wait to see the new additions 1 Quote Link to comment

teenyreef
Thanks, everyone! I fed the zoas some rotifers tonight, and some of them closed up. So I'll try to get pictures of them tomorrow night 2 Quote Link to comment
teenyreef
Still no zoa shots...sigh. Right after I took this FTS, I notice that one of the little rocks on the very top had fallen down because the glue didn't hold. When I went to fix it, it turned out none of the glue was holding any more. Next thing I knew, nearly every rock above the montis had fallen down I finally got it all back together but nothing's glued anymore. but at least I can go to bed with an intact tank..until the snails and crabs knock it down again. moores38
Tank is looking amazing my friend! I'd be lying if I said I wasn't jealous, mainly because your skimmer works better than mine! 1 Quote Link to comment
teenyreef
Thanks! Good luck with your skimmer Quote Link to comment
Begow
Hey what do you use the Apex for on such a small system? 1 Quote Link to comment
teenyreef
Hey what do you use the Apex for on such a small system? Mostly to make it easy to turn off the pump/skimmer/ato when I feed or do a water change. It's more of a nice to have than a necessity. 2 Quote Link to comment
teenyreef
Got back from my trip last night and everything was still alive, so I'm declaring success The zoas are just doing OK. They sometimes close up for a day but then open back up. I don't think they're really thriving yet. I did a water change tonight so we'll see how they are in the morning. Everything else seems to be thriving. Acans are getting puffy, montis are spreading, the rics are growing and aren't bleached any more, and even the Morgonian Gorgonian is getting fluffier. I took a quick and dirty shot of the acans under blue light tonight. It turned out OK, but I'm still trying to figure out the best way to get decent pics under the blues. And then, I realized there was a snail on the glass right in the middle of everything. Stupid snail Acans in the Evening by TeenyReef, on Flickr So I settled for a cropped macro of one of the rainbow acans. I've finally gotten the lighting intensity up enough that everything is starting to color up Rainbow Acan by TeenyReef, on Flickr 7 Quote Link to comment

ceemo
Those Acans are looking great. Hope I can get something half as good as this once mine is up and running! Col Quote Link to comment
owenj
Great shots! I think I nipped whatever was causing my acans to melt in the bud . Hopefully they'll start coloring up super awesome like yours. I miss my rainbow one. What did you start your Tide settings at v. where you are now? My Tide finally arrived (!) and I'm planning on setting it up today. I think Dave recommends something like 120B-60W? Quote Link to comment

teenyreef
It's coming along. It's always good to see everything is alright when you get back from being away. :-) Yep - it seems like my 4g tank always goes through big alk swings when I go away, but this tank is much more stable. It really shows how much more challenging it is to keep a pico. The difference between 4g and 10g is much bigger than you might think Haha about that snail! hate when that happens! I know, right? Or I forget to clean the glass and there's little baby pods everywhere Quote Link to comment
