larcat
Hi! This is a Pico Aquariums "40 Breeder" that has been running for about 9 months. Had a JBJ 20 for a while, but quickly upgraded. Mostly SPS, but some flubber and rics as well. We are long time planted tank people, this is our first reef tank. We've been lucky, locally, to meet some wonderful people who have helped us learn the reefing ropes. We quickly broke down and became SPS-obsessed, and this is the result so far: Stocking: Fish: 1 Pygmy Wrasse 1 Bristle Tooth Tang 1 Tail Spot Blenny 1 Radiant Wrasse Coral: A bunch of SPS Acans Ric. Floridas 1 Yuma A couple plates A torch A duncan A Dendro colony Please excuse the frag rack! http://imgur.com/pYlQc0V'> 3/4 View -- Tank is set up as a semi-peninsula with an open sump, etc. It is on a table we can sit and hang out at, which is nice. http://imgur.com/iq5BNkS'> SPS! This one was frown from a completely snipped frag plug -- Our buddy had it in our tank and cut it off to take it home about 2 months ago. Fast grower! This guy refuses to grow -- Just keeps coloring up and taunting us Finally jumped the plug! Our Setosa is almost on the sand bed, super low in the tank. Seems to like it down here And now..... Flubber! If you have any questions, fire away Link to comment
Bingo1213
Does your Bristle Tooth Tang do well in your 40? Also is that a Kole Tang? The reason I ask is because I am currently building a 40 Breeder to upgrade from my 25 cube and I was wanting a tang. I haven't decided between a Tomini and a Kole Tang any thoughts would be great! larcat
He is doing *just* fine thus far. He's getting relatively close to adult size now also. We keep pretty high nutrients, so he's always got stuff to knosh on. Actually, he and the Radiant sort of form a team, with the Radiant grabbing pods and such that fly off the rock as the Tang hammers it. We grew him out from about the size of a quarter. In a tank this small, I would say he should be the last fish added, as he absolutely rules the roost now. The Pygmy and Blenny don't care so much, being relatively cryptic. The actual type is usually called a Square Tail Bristle Tooth. Slightly smaller than Koles... Big fuge and relatively big skimmer (SWC 120.) Does your Bristle Tooth Tang do well in your 40? Also is that a Kole Tang? Bingo1213
Yes I am planning on a 20 gallon sump, refugium, skimmer, GFO and carbon reactors etc. Nutrients are not my concern I was just wondering if a tang would go stir crazy in that size tank haha Link to comment
larcat
Ahh, gotcha. He seems to have plenty of swimming space. Open rock work probably helps that. larcat
We have.... An Ulva problem. Hair algae is totally under control but Ulva has exploded. Anyone have any suggestions for a biological control? Link to comment
