FlamingPrawn
Little bit of background on myself.... Hi my name is Robby and I've been a reefaholic in denial for 2 years. About 2 years ago I started working at a saltwater speciality store and FELL IN LOVE with this hobby. I loved talking about people's tanks, recommendations, lighting options, and anything reef related. While I was working there I did start a 40 breeder that was up and running for about a year before the girlfriend and I were forced to move back home due to financial issues. When we moved back home we never restarted the tank and I got involved with Poison Dart Frogs (Where Giga when you need him?!) . At the height of the frogging i was housing 6 different species and needless to say, the enchantment I had with reefing just wasn't there and the girlfriend didn't like the frogs nearly much. However, we have since moved into our own home, frogs have been sold, and IT IS TIME! I'll make sure I throw in some froggy pictures too as they still need the lovins'. Ok enough of the sappy sob story of my past and blah blah blah. I picked up a Fluval Edge 6 with a cracked top. Therefore, it was de-rimmed and will be used this way. Tank was wet as of 11/9/14. Things have changed and the tank was broken down... FlamingPrawn
Ok got some pictures up finally. guess I needed to finally do an imgur account. Coral wise I'd like some flower nems for the sexy shrimp and then mainly easier SPS and some less aggressive LPS such as Acans, Favias, Sun coral (always wanted to try it) and then whatever else we find exciting. Trying to stay away from softies Link to comment
aquariumlover10
Ok sounds good, maybe some frogspawn coral. Link to comment

Lol I just couldn't real with not being able to clean it was going to suck. As a daily update... plan on selling the Marineland C220 (too much flow). Going to order some dry rock off ebay this weekend & once the canister filter sells going to order my par30! Link to comment

As a daily update... plan on selling the Marineland C220 (too much flow). Going to order some dry rock off ebay this weekend & once the canister filter sells going to order my par30! Are you sure a C220 would be too much flow? It's rated at 220 GPH right? I ran a MP10 @ 32% in my derimmed Fluval Edge (6G), which rates at about 640GPH, and felt there could have been a bit more flow. (I had to throttle it because it was such a shallow tank & was making sand craters). Link to comment

That's my biggest fear. Guess i'd have to give it a go and see what happens. Link to comment

FlamingPrawn
Sigh... Needless to say this process is going to be a Snail's Pace. Trying to find a friend who's willing to part with some Live Rock to get the cycle going. Refractometer SHOULD be here sometime next week. Tank is stabilized at 78. Other than that...yeah... uh tanks cleared. Haven't hooked up the canister filter yet to test the flow (sorry Xiaoxly!). Hoping this will suffice. Need to order the lily pipes this weekend Link to comment
FlamingPrawn
Well.. New Toy came today! Thanks to Vanisher! Still getting used to using it but overall seems very accurate. I zero-ed it out with some distilled water I had from the store. Hydrometer reading was about 1.021.Tested with the refractometer and it was only at like 1.019. Rocks will be coming here soon! FlamingPrawn
Update: We now have rock! Picked up 5 lbs from the old place I used to work. Still trying to figure out how I want to aquascape; suggestions welcome! Couldn't pass up the piece on the right. Sadly stupid thing has a brittle star in it... So i'll be fighting that battle for the next couple days trying to get him out and return him to the store. Now the wait game and let things properly cycle. Next on the list is the par30 bulb! aquariumlover10
Why don't you want a brittlestar? They are a great cuc. I thunk if the right piece wasin a corner and the other in the corner on same side it would work great. Link to comment

I thunk if the right piece wasin a corner and the other in the corner on same side it would work great. I've never had luck with brittles... Every single one I've ever owned was evil and always got its hands on a goby or something...do you'd put a piece in each corner? I want to get another rock to put on the left side and "arch" it. can't really put anything against the back until i get that darn heater out of there Link to comment
aquariumlover10
Is it a serpent or a britle? Serpent I have never heard of eating anything, but brittles I have. Link to comment
FlamingPrawn
He's spikey thats for sure. And really embedded in the rock. Going to see if some food coaxes him out. Link to comment

FlamingPrawn
Small update. Koralia nano 240, Aqueon 50w and skimmer box showed up today thanks to another nano-reefer :) . I got the Koralia installed and heater no problem. However, I think the skimmer box is way too big (made for the ac70). I'm not really getting "surface skimmer". It's going in one part and right out there other! Any suggestions on how to use this or should I just wait until I find an AC70? Link to comment
FlamingPrawn
Weekly update... Did first water change. Gotta say I love the small tank water changes. Life is so much easier! Also got the surface skimmer box working. Just had to lower the water level Link to comment
