Patrick225
Hi I have a 55 gallon mixed reef with a pair of clownfish, a possum wrasse and a longnose hawkfish. The tank is about a year old and there are loads of aptasia on the rocks and also tons of bubble algae. I have tried injecting the aptasia with vinegar and I have also tried removing the bubble algae without popping it, but both still keep coming back. I live in nsw australia and have not seen any nudibranches for sale and copperband butterfly can't fit in my tank and peppermint shrimp will get eaten by my hawkfish. What should I do? I will be moving house in the next few months, should I consider restarting my tank? Cheers Patrick Link to comment

CronicReefer
If you feel the cost of buying new cured live rock is less than the cost of trying to remove it all then I would. I don't know of any "cure" for bubble algae but I keep my phosphates as close to zero as I can and it pretty much stays on one rock. I use aiptasia x but it always is growing somewhere you can't reach or see so I'm trying to get nudibranches as well. Link to comment
SiRhk
Have you ever tried Aiptasia X? Some people go against it but let me tell you, in my personal experience I helped me get rid of more than 30 aiptasias in one of my tanks, and I had tons of corals. And about the bubble algae, I had some of that too and I got some Emerald Crabs and they took care of it, that option is not a 100%, they may not even look at it, but if they do, they will help you a lot. Work amazing. Just make sure your pump and fans are off. I Havent seen anything on rocks or in my tank since. Worth the money. Link to comment

SiRhk
Sorry of late reply my internet hasn't been working thanks for all the suggestions. I better go get some aptasiax then! Make sure to turn off all the pumps (return pump, powerhead). Let the water calm, and slowly go down to the aiptasia and make sure they get the aiptasia X inside and not just on top of them. Patrick225
So I have to inject the aptasiax inside them? Link to comment
CronicReefer
So I have to inject the aptasiax inside them? You want to make sure it sprayed onto its mouth at the center of its tentacles and is well coated. If you try to touch it the aiptasia will shrink back so just get as close as you can. SgtBhaji
I use Aptasia X in my tanks and it works wonders. My wife uses peppermint shrimp in hers and they mow down Aptasia like there's no tommorow. As for bubble algae, best I've found is to glue them in or pull the rock and burn them off. The emeralds that I had wouldn't touch the red bubble algea in mine (I hear they'll eat the green though) and they were just a nuisance with everything else. Link to comment
