intr3p1d
Hey guys, I've got a quick question for ya I plan on running my 6.25 gallon all-in-one mostly as a coral garden with probably a skunk cleaner shrimp and two trochus snails. I also planned on doing the fluval-HOB-turned-macro-refugium thing and tossing in chaeto to help keep my ph consistent throughout the day. One of my absolute favorite fish is the court jester goby - and if they eat algae all the better. My LFS has managed to get some juvenile court jester gobies and I'm wondering if it would eat chaeto snippets from the 'fuge in addition to scavenging around the tank. This would give me a cool fish with some personality in addition to also providing me with tank cleaning services, and thatd be dope. Anyone's help who has had experience with this fish would be friggin great. Link to comment
Tamberav
Check out this post: http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/352142-food-for-rainfordi-goby/ Personally, I would only try one in a 6g if it was eating prepared foods. Link to comment
kimberbee
I really wanted to try one of these, too. But it seems like the majority of people have issues getting them to eat froze/prepared foods. Link to comment
Angel<3Nanos
I been having one in my refugium for a while. It eats algae and pods. I also have a hectors in my 45g, it looks just like the jester but eats prepared and picks at the sand. Link to comment
intr3p1d
LFS just got in a hector's goby that's about an inch long.....I want it! But alas, I have a couple weeks to wait. Hopefully he is still there. Anyone know how much flow these guys like/ don't like? Link to comment

intr3p1d
The hector? It doesn't care for flow. At least mine doesn't. I have tons of flow in my 45g Sweet According to the LFS, this one in particular is captive bred, eats frozen brine as well as new life spectrum pellets and will also nip at hair algae. Sounds like a win to me! My tank is at day ~26 but I have yet to add anything other than some snails and a small skunk cleaner. How long should I wait to add him and would it be better to add my soft corals before or after I introduce him to the system? Link to comment

Doesn't matter if you add corals before or after. Link to comment

Not paying the captive bred price unless I see it eat like a captive-bred fish In case this one doesn't work out, are there any other fish you'd recommend for my size tank? It's pretty much the same display volume as a fluval edge. and there's plenty of flow Link to comment

1.0reef
Rainfordi and Heckfords gobies haven't been breed in captivity yet. Link to comment
Tamberav
Rainfordi and Heckfords gobies haven't been breed in captivity yet. I was suspicious of that as well... I found this list saying they have? http://www.reef2rainforest.com/2013/12/17/coral-magazines-captive-bred-marine-fish-species-list-for-2014/ However, I would assume that it may have been once or twice thing as I have not seen these guys being released regularly as captive bred?? The LFS definitely could be lying to make a sale. I would say it is unlikely they are captive bred. Link to comment

I looked through some species reports and fishbase and they don't list them as being bred in captivity. Nor could I find any accounts of the fry being raised. Link to comment
