Chris333
When I first put the rock in water: It had some 1" long fingers that broke off the top in transit. A few days later with brighter lights: Any ideas? I've been searching for hours...hard to search when you don't know what your looking for. Link to comment
FishFrog
Almost looks like a half-dead sun coral... Whatever it is, it seems hungry. Have you tried feeding it? Link to comment
Guits
Is your live rock from Florida? It looks similar to some Oculina sp. that I have from my live rock. Link to comment
Chris333
Tank is only 1.5 weeks old, no feeding yet. Yes the rock is from Gulf Live Rock. If it is Oculina should I try feeding it? Also noticed you have a Spec V as well. Link to comment
Chris333
Guits, looks like you are correct. I just read where some one glued the broke pieces back and it kept growing. Wish I knew it was alive when I opened the box... Link to comment

Also noticed you have a Spec V as well. I have 2 pieces of Oculina and they both are voracious eaters. They even eat pellets that I've pre-soaked in tank water. I also obtained my rock from Gulf Live Rock Link to comment
Acielot
Awee one of my favorites! Mine died a while back because it got engulfed by my LTA. They become truly beautiful corals when they mature and start to branch. Turbulent indirect flow and medium intensity light worked best to make it super happy IME Link to comment
opaquelace
I want some gulf live rock. All the good hitchhikers come from them. Link to comment
Guits
Here is a photo of one of mine with its feeding tentacles out: Link to comment
Chris333
I fed mine a soggy shrimp pellet and bought some Coral Frenzy. Mine might have looked like the one above if the fingers hadn't broke off. Link to comment
opaquelace
Here is a photo of one of mine with its feeding tentacles out: Is this a caribbean based tank? I see some caribbean rose corals. Did you purchase those or were they hitchhikers? I don't believe you can buy them anymore...legally. Link to comment

I don't believe you can buy them anymore...legally. Yup, it is a Caribbean (actually Florida) based tank. They were all hitchhikers on aquacultured live rock - it took a while (and multiple live rock orders) to acquire all the specimens! I believe these corals can only be acquired as hitchhikers on aquacultured live rock as hard corals cannot be legally collected. Link to comment
