Jay Wee's Coral Crib (Fluval M60)

Hey all,

I'm back with a new setup. Some of you OGs might remember my old threads. I started a Jay's IM Nuvo 24 and then a Jay's Cad Lights Artisan II 70g. I'm in the midst of selling the 70g and I've downgraded back to a Nano AIO. Its just easier to maintain with my insane work schedule.

So now I have a Fluval M60. It's a pretty dope tank.

Equipment

Fluval M60 (24g) AIO

Fluval Sea PS1 Protein Skimmer

2 X Fluval Sea Full Spectrum LED

Fluval Sea CP1 Circulation Pump

Jebao WP10 Wave Maker

IM-24 Media Basket (Filter Floss, Purigen, Chemi-Pure Elite)

Neptune Apex Controller

Tunze Osmolator ATO

Livestock

1X Snowflake Clown

2 X Yellow Tail Damsel

Shitload of snails

All sorts of corals

I filled it up pretty quickly by transferring most of my corals from the 70g. I'm contented with the 盆栽 Bonsai-style aqua scape. Really suits my mixed reef concept and the challenge that comes with the placement of SPS and LPS corals.

I'm not doing sand beds anymore. Bad experiences with my previous tanks so I went with a bare bottom. So much easier to maintain and I just love the clean aesthetic.

My little garden of Acan and Blasto. I still cannot tell the difference between acan and blastos. So for you experts out there, please ID for me and tell me if I should be moving some of these away.

My little SPS haven. The Hydnophora is growing insanely fast. And my Snowflake clown has been with my since my Nuvo24 days. What a trooper. But a nasty one. Killed every other clown I try to pair it with.

Thanks for looking guys. Some of my corals are in shock from the move. My Hammers and Aussie Duncans are closed up and I hope they will perk up soon. I'll be trying to create a little zoa garden below the Montipora on the right.

And last but not least, I LOVE THIS HOBBY!

really liking all the acans

Thanks! I'm worried I'm putting them too close to one another. I think it's fine for now.

nice looking set up ive just bought same set up in the uk ......question how have you got the three chambers at the rear set up and don,t you find it odd that the flow is straight across from chamber one to three not up and down like a sump

kind regards nails

Beautiful tank, with my new 60g I'm using the frosted rim idea off these tanks :) your scape is fantastic and I love it

Oh yeah that frosted rim thing is the coolest feature. All that gunk gets hidden. Great for nasty sand beds.

Hi there! The Fluval M series is really popular in the UK. The sump flow is indeed weird I agree. I realized it too late after I filled it up with water and transferred all my corals from my 70G. If I had known earlier when the tank was dry I would have modified it. I read a couple of threads of M series owners modifying their sump. Let me know if you figure something out to rectify this.

I really like your shallow build by the way. II actually really like your freshwater planted setup. f there was a way for you to do half that shallow tank and do a half saltwater and half freshwater.... that would be epic.

Love the frosted rim on the top. Dislike the frosted rim on the bottom.

Otherwise, its a beautiful setup. I really dig the aesthetics of the stand.

Lol that fw tank got 0 water changes and fed once every 3 days and still 0 nitrates lol and the plants all grew out from stems, or frags in this case :)

yes mine is still dry as i only picked it up on the weekend carnt decide ......which way to go..filter media in bags in chamber 2 and turn the divider up side down so the flow is at the bottom or keep as is and create live sand and live rock and culurpa or such as a fuge and just run k1 media in last chamber with the return pump what do you think

I've always had good success with a 3 step media basket. With filter floss, purigen and chemical pure. With that my nitrates are always kept low and my water is ultra polished clear. You just gotta be diligent with replacing the media. I'll snag a photo of my media basket when I get a chance. I've never had success with fuge in the AIO back Chambers. Gets really messy. And if something is out of sorts you'll have the hardest time cleaning out the sand, rocks and chaeto back there unless you have clear access to the back but I assume your tank is flushed to the wall like most people do?

Are you using the fluval skimmer that came with the tank? I find it working pretty good. It's only been a week and it's pulling some really nasty smelling gunk.

To address your question in the first post. I only see Blastos in the center towards the left. Neon green center with orange/reddish rim. I think most blastomussa have similar coloring, and usually just 2 colors while the acans are multicolored. I have never kept either, but I would let them grow out and see how they react when they grow into each other. People let euphyllia touch all the time and usually it doesn't cause issues, but someone with experience should chime in, I just prefer the natural method.

Thanks for the tip! I will let them grow out and see what happens.

The Fluval M Series rear chambers are not the best design in terms of flow. It's not designed to flow up and down like a sump but it goes across from one chamber to another. Wish I modded it before I filled it up. Its a little too late now. Ideally the mod should look like this. Credit goes to Benlfc of UK's Ultimate Reed. Smart move on those diy plexi baffles to direct the flow up and down through all chambers.

Nice looking tank!

I'm in the same boat with the acans/blastos. I have a rock that I put 3 acans on, and have a blasto that would fit well there as well. But can't decide if that's a good idea or not lol.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Nice scape! I dig it, keep us posted.

Thanks man. I've made some changes and added a zoa garden. I'll update with pictures soon. Your Bestiarium is looking good.

Another good looking tank. And another slick stand - where's this one hail from?

Any photos taken of your 70g on its best day? The current thread pics on show it with water/rock/sand.

Oh, and welcome back!
