Cool Beans
Reef Herpes sounds funnier, but I have Gelidium, Red Wiry Turf Algae: http://www.reefcleaners.org/nuisance-algae-id-guide Everything I've read says you can't totally get rid of it, but you can get manage it and learn to live with it. . .ie, herpes Even after applications of peroxide and lye solution, the tank looks better but it still pops up. . .even after a few weeks on treated rocks/frags. . .my final solution for the tank is to cover evey square inch of rock in some kind of zoa/mushroom/soft coral. . .hell, if GSP will cover it, i'll unleash them on my main rock work Since I'm a contientious reefer, I'm haven't given away any corals since the turf algae has shown up. But, will I ever be able to trade/sell/freebie away anything anymore? Only thing that comes to mind is to peroxide dip anything before it leaves my tank. . . Thoughts? Thanks! Link to comment
rocksmom
Peroxide didn't work for me. I did both a dip and straight peroxide and it still came back. I gave up and pulled the plugs that had it and my husband put them in his tank. It had already taken over his rock so he got a turbo that eats it which keeps it under control. I wouldn't trade anything from his tank knowing I could be passing it on. I wouldn't even trade anything from my tank for a long time knowing it could pop up at some point. I don't know if there is a better solution than the peroxide that might work. Link to comment
