chaeto in cave in dt?

So i seem to be constantly be battling algae out breaks, and right now it is especially bad. Anyway one way im scheming to take away whatever food the algae has is to put a sort of floor layer of chaeto in the cave of my rock work. I know its a hard question to answer without a picture, but my nanocube scape is basically a cave but there are plenty of cracks and holes to allow light to pass through ( gsp what fell through is surving). anyway i was wondering does chaeto out compete say hair algae for nutrients? and how much light does chaeto need, does it all need to be in light or will just some light passing through the rocks be enough to support it? I understand there are much more efficient ways to rid my tank of algae but rest assure i am taking many other precautions to try and erradicate this pest! I just am trying to do some of everything to hopefully put a dent in it.

Will not out compete it no. Could be helpful but would also need other measures. Higher light would help it grow faster and take up nutrients faster.

Personally I think cheato in the display will be a PITA, pieces like to break off and get everywhere.

I would probably plant something like caulerpa prolifera in the sand bed as it will grow much faster than cheato.

Would caulerpa survive with partial light?

If you want to grow macro to help with nutrients, it would be best not to hinder it with crappy light. The point is to grow it as fast as possible. I'm sure it would survive though.

Try to find the source of the problem, do you over feed? Water changes? Stocking? Water flow? Dead spots? How much lr? What size tank?

tank is 28 gal nanocube with 2 stock accella pumps, not sure on size and not home. and i also have a koralia 245 in there. As for dead spots i like to think the flow is pretty good. live rock no idea, roughly 30 lbs, maybe more. dont over feed, rarely feed corals, just fish. water change 4 gallons every 2-3 weeks. stocked with blenny, 2 clowns, 6 line wrasse and coral banded shrimp ( think ill be evicting she shrimp soon though) and many corals. lps softies and 1 sps frag. So maybe overstocking is the problem. I was really hoping getting an overpowered skimmer for the tank (octopus bh 1000 good for over 100 gallons) would really make the difference for it, but i guess not

Don't do chaetomorpha in your display. Unless you can get one of the hold fasting varieties (crasa? I think) as Tambrev states it "will be a PITA, pieces like to break off and get everywhere."

Says someone who put in in their display when he was starting out - LO! it WAS a PITA. And yes, pieces did break off and got everywhere. Ditched it in favor of a more varied set of display macros over a year ago and I'm STILL finding little bits & threads of it in random spots.

boughta big clean up crew from reef cleaners almost a ear ago, other than that just recently i added a few turbos to try and gobble up the excess algae but they dont seem to do the trick. And while the main purpose of the macro algae in the cave would be for nutrient export, i also think it would look awesome having a cave with macro growing throughout it. Coral all on the outside then on the inside a cave full of macro algae, pods, and whatever else would want to live in it!

4 gallons every 2-3 weeks does not seem like much. I do 4 gallons every 5-7 days. People can do more or less but that depends on other ways of exporting nutrients (skimmer, carbon, po4 remover, purigen, macro, ect) vs fish load and feeding.

Yeah i guess i thought that with the new skimmer I would be able to support the blenny but maybe his addition is whats making the problem accelerate.
