lkoechle
Goodness, how do people afford huge tanks after rock and sand? So, I want to use something like Arag-alive's Bimini Pink. Really bad. It looks like the beaches I grew up with and I'd love to have it my tank. Anyways, it's expensive for an 80 gallon tank, what other kind of substrates are there that are decent? I'm having a hard time finding other decent looking substrates at good prices. I've also thought about buying a cheaper substrate that I could mix in with the Bimini Pink. Any suggestions on a cheap one that would match? It's hard to say when you haven't seen them person. Link to comment

Much cheaper and live sand is a gimmick imo, just make sure to rinse the dry sand thoroughly. Link to comment
talwen
I agree with the above poster buying live sand is not money well spent. You can get a cup of a established sand from a local reefer and have live sand in a matter of months. Also if you get live rock alot of critters for the sand will come out of that. Link to comment
lkoechle
I don't care about the live sand. I just like the look. Ironically, the price per pound difference in "live" and dry is 10 to 20 cents depending on who you buy from. And the Bimini is a little different from the Fiji. So, it's not going to save too much money. Link to comment
