AI Hydra52 or Hydra26?

TCP

Recommended Posts

Ive been in the process of setting up a 40 gallon breeder (36"x18"x16") reef and have finally gotten to the lighting side of things... Just curious of what peoples thoughts were:

Hydra-26 (x2)

OR

Hydra-52 (x1)

Thanks in advance! Any advice is appriciated!

Pretty sure a single Hydra 52 would have a hard time with the length unless you are not planning on putting anything 5 inches from the sides of the glass.

I think I'd rather buy the pucks from ai's part store and build two hydra 52. Get some good cheap heatsinks and fans along with a quality power supply and drivers.

I am leaning more towards 2 Hydra26's - It is probably the better option, no?

At a minimum...for coverage.

Ideal would be 2 x 52 but you could make it work with 2 x 26 with the right minimal type of rockscape.

Not to derail...but...ATI T5 is another option. They work out really nice for a 40B

I see Sol pucks, nothing else.

Where do you see Hydra52 pucks?

I'd also vote for two 26's. One 52 will light the tank, but you won't get growth towards the outside 6 inches of both ends and this comes out to a third of your tank.
