gus6464
Tested KH, Ca, Mg, etc. and noticed Mg was sky high past 1600. Ca 470, Alk 6, and pH 8. All SPS, frogspawn and acans are happy and my new clam is opening up nicely. Link to comment
jedimasterben
Not exactly sky high. Have you been dosing? What salt are you using? Link to comment
gus6464
Well the red sea test caps at 1600 and the water hadn't turned blue yet so it's definitely beyond that. As far as salt I am using filtered ocean water. I have been dosing: KZ nanopower 2 drops of each daily Brightwell Potasion 1 cap 3x week KZ coral snow 3x a week recommended dose Brightwell Magnesion 1x a week (started only last week) Top off is done with distilled water Link to comment
jedimasterben
Do you have a measured uptake of magnesium that you started to dose for? Link to comment
gus6464
The water tests at 1250mg from the source. I just don't see how dosing 5ml of magnesium 3x would make the water go from 1250 to 1600+. I was even doing half dose as the brightwell bottle states to add 5ml per 20g of water. I guess I will stop dosing and test again next Sunday. Link to comment
jedimasterben
No, the whole bottle probably wouldn't raise it by anywhere near as much in your tank, it takes an insane amount of magnesium solution to raise levels by an appreciable amount. Maybe just a bum test? Did you do another? Link to comment
atrox
Do you have a high coral load in the tank? Link to comment
gus6464
Do you have a high coral load in the tank? Nope. 9 SPS frags, 9 Acan frags, 2 frogspawn heads and a big clam. Link to comment
atrox
Why are you dosing mag if you are noticing high mag levels. I would stop. I've never dosed mag and mag levels are maintained by weekly water changes. You're alk is low, if you slowly start raising alk you will see ca, and mag levels start to drop. I would suggest to keep you're alk around 7.5 to 9 dkh. Link to comment
