warsteiner2009
Not a newbie but considering myself one since i never had a nano tank before. Had 65 Gallon but moved and divorced with two young girls. So i am investing in a highly maintenance helping set up.. Not to be lazy but help with busy schedule, FYI it was fish or a dog. Fish won! Set up IM Marine 10 Gallon NUVO w/ 16# LED (Premium Starter Kit) IM Ghost Protein Skimmer Desk Top Cobalt 50W Heater Coralife 14 G Biocube Stand Neptune Jr w/ Temp Probe IM Spin Stream Return Nozzle IM all In One Media Reactor Desk Top 10 Lbs Caribsea Arag-Alive Indo-Pacific Blank Sand 10 Lbs Live Rock IM Hydro-Fill ATO Controller and ATO Pump System w/ 5 Gallon DI/RO Water Future additions Neptune pH Probe Modula PM1 Apple Airport to make Neptune Jr wifi (current not link to web) R2 Solutions Extreme LED Moonlight So far so good, not sure if protein skimmer is working though, any one have a ghost? Auto top off has not kicked on yet and not big fan of layout but want to keep tubing free of back pressure and water source to large to fit in cabinet. Fish suggestions, my two girls each want a clown fish but not sure two is good for this size of aquarium. Most like just getting to small fish. Have not decided on coral. Cant upload photos as to large, trying to figure how to reduce size with my iPhone or iMac, help? Link to comment

Deleted User 8
Why the pH probe? IMO not necessary in such a small tank. You will be doing regular water changes and that should take care of any pH swings. Monkeying with pH on a 10g is damn tricky. The best thing is to be stable at whatever pH and doing water changes should get you there. Most salt mixes buffer pH really well. I wouldn't put 2 clowns in a 10g. Frankly, I would not put one in there. Maybe a gobie and shrimp pair? Skimmers take some time to break in and start producing good foam. You don't have much of a bio load in there now. Also, small skimmers skim wet. Is your cycle complete? If not, I would turn off the skimmer until you are at the end of the cycle. YMMV. Buzz Link to comment
warsteiner2009
Tank set up yesterday so no where near cycled, just doing research. pH, accuracy range to low on 10 gallon tank? Trying to get most out of Neptune system. Even though theres a break in phase i still should see bubbles (at least small ones) from the air valve, correct? do you recommend throwing some food in to start ammonia cycle? Link to comment
Deleted User 8
Well, accuracy is one thing, trying to adjujst the pH of 10g of water is not easy in my experience. Unless you start having particular problems with pH for some reason, I would not get the probe first thing. Just becasue the Neptune can do something doesn't mean you have to, or should. Certainly if money is not that big an issue, go for it. IMO there are better things to spend money on. The ORP probe would be another to add to the list. I'm not sure what you mean by bubbles from the air valve. Do you mean micro bubbles in the output of the skimmer or bubbles inside the skimmer? I would use regular pure ammonia during the cycle. Make sure to get pure ammonia with no additives or scents added. Do a search for ammonia dosing to start cycle. Buzz Link to comment
warsteiner2009
Buzz, thanks for the information. Did go with the ORP after further review. Having a rough time getting the Neptune to work online though. Yes, micro bubbles. Instruction did not go into a break in period were all my old protein skimmers started right away with micro bubbles. Main problem i am having is heat, so i am adding a fan today. Media Reactor just running carbon for a few weeks to remove any contaminants from start-up. Should i continue with carbon or beneficial to go with Argonite Reactor Media. Link to comment
