Wattman
Hi I was wondering if the Chinese/eBay/generic par38 bulbs are ok to use on a small nano tank with a gooseneck. I'm mainly wondering if anyone has had good or bad experiences with them. Thanks! This is what I'm considering http://m.ebay.com/itm/131328242652?nav=SEARCH Link to comment
Wattman
Oops meant to post this in the lighting forum, sorry Link to comment
FlamingPrawn
Been considering one of these also. However, Coral Compulsion does an AMAZING 18k par30/38 bulb. Yes they're more expensive but a lot I've seen is people buy the chinese ones and replace the LED's Link to comment
Tamberav
Probably not worth it. It may not bring out the best colors in your coral. If money is an issue, I would buy a used one off our hardware forums. They can be had.. for about $40-50 shipped. Link to comment
Wattman
Please believe I've been looking on hardware forums here. The eBay one is cheap though and might serve well as a backup I'm thinking. Link to comment
Tamberav
I don't know much about LED's and generally turn to the guru's for this but a great LED guide was posted: http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/352618-led-colors-and-what-they-are-used-for/ It looks like that light is cold white, blue, and green. Basically according to the guide, that light is blah. I would pass. No reason to buy beautiful coral and have them look like crap from a cheap light. Wattman
This one is a bit more but still cheap at $42. Uses warm white LEDs instead of cool white. http://m.ebay.com/itm/131298601187?cmd=VIDESC&gxo=true Link to comment

evilc66
Wattman, neither of the lamps you linked to are going to look good over a reef tank. The first one will look horrifically green (although bright as a result) and washed out, and the second one is not intended for reef applications. I know the Coral Compulsion ones are a little more expensive, but they are tried and trued. You won't have any complaints after ordering one of those, versus spending double or more on those cheap lamps after you find out they look like crap. You spend more in the long run cutting corners to get something cheap now. Link to comment
happyhour99
if your going for the cheap chineese LED then at least look for a better spectrum, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Full-Spectrum-E27-Fixture-12-LED-Aquarium-Coral-Reef-Light-Fresh-Saltwater-PAR38-/131278901184?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item1e90d50fc0 BUT don't expect them to last nearly as long as a good quality light.
