Bulkhead help and PVC questions...

How do I attach plumbing to the threaded side of the bulkhead?

Do I jam an elbow fitting on or do I stick a small length inside?

Also if I do this where can I get a gate valve from in the uk? Or in the us because apparently they don't sell these in the uk...

Thanks, Toby

Threaded elbow? What size is it? If smooth inside (slip fit) you can use a street elbow that has an inside slip fit end and regular slip or thread end. You can also use a regular slip slip elbow with a short chunk of PVC.

It is smooth on the inside, and I think it is 2" I can't remember because it was made 2 years ago :/

Small piece of pipe slides in then you attach a elbow to the piece of pipe.

If you look on Reef2Reef, 3Reef and some of the other forums I have a sticky post on Bulkhead Installation Tips. For some reason I can't post the link here but it is quite detailed and answers all your questions. It used to be on here somewhere but I can't find it anymore but a search should bring it up as it has been posted and linked to many times over the years.

You don't screw anything to the the outside threads, they are not tapered pipe threads and would leak since anything you could find to fit would only screw on about 1 thread and not seal.

In the photo it also looks like you may have a rubber gasket on the side with the threads and nut which is a big NO NO. The gasket always goes on the flange side of the bulkhead regardless if it is inside or outside the tank, never the threaded side. Also sealants like teflon tape or silicine should never be used, dry and clean with no silicone or tape.
