MysterRC
I’m sure I will get yelled at, but I’m looking at building an oversized stand for a 40B. This will be a winter project so I’m just planning now. In looking at my options, one question I came up with was, would a marble or granite top work for putting a tank on? I would either overbuild a stand for it, or use a 48” kitchen cabinet or bathroom vanity and beef it up some. I am hoping to use a 40B for a sump and I want a lot of extra room down below, I hate everything being cramped when I’m working on my tank! Would love to hear the opinions on this approach. NorthGaHillbilly
The kitchen cabinet would work well, b it don't get to caught up on being it up, any but the cheapest builder grade cabinets would hold a 40b with ease Link to comment
MysterRC
I should explain a little further. If I were to use a cabinet base, the beefing up part would be to beef up the interior so it can handle a sump, including sealing it against moisture, etc. My real concern at this point is the top though. I’ve read multiple threads indicating that making an oversized stand is a bit risky. I’m looking at a ~48” wide stand for a ~36” wide tank and probably 24-30” deep. For the top I’ve been thinking about using granite or marble and in my estimate it would be fine as long as it had a good framework underneath, but figured I’d ask here as there are people here with a lot more real world experience than my estimates.
